Obama calls Democratic leaders to White House
Obama calls Democratic leaders to White House

WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama is summoning top Democrats from the House and Senate to the White House Wednesday afternoon for talks on raising the nation's debt ceiling.

White House spokesman Jay Carney says the meeting will take place shortly before 3 p.m. EDT. When asked why Obama was not meeting with Republicans, Carney would only say there were no other meetings to announce.

Wednesday's meeting comes as a new bipartisan budget plan is emerging in the Senate. The "Gang of Six" plan would slash the deficit by almost $4 trillion over a decade through a mix of spending cuts and new tax revenues. Obama has praised the plan.

11. I want
"none of the above" in office. That's why they won't put NOTA on the ballot, it'd win both sides by a landslide.

10. The question in the story is "why isn't he meeting with Republicans"? Really?
Obama's been meeting with Republican leadership for months. He is actually meeting with leaders from his own frickin' party, and everyone wants to know why he isn't meeting with the Republicans? Unbe-fuckin'-lievable.

I don't know what's going to come out of this meeting, but I would be very happy to find out that congressional Democrats reminded the President that large majorities of the American people favor raising taxes on the wealthy and not tinkering with the benefits we've already paid for.

Oh, and maybe it's time to wind down one or more wars.

14. Obama usually meets with is party after he has negotiated a deal with RepubliCONS
So, he is planning on telling the Democrats this is the deal, vote for it or else.

That's what went down with that stupid health care bill and the tax give away to the uber rich.

After the meeting, Democrats will pretend to be upset for awhile, then they all go along with the new RepubliCON give away and vote it in.

17. The President is meeting with the GOP leadership at 5 PM
http://news.yahoo.com/obama-pushes-11th-hour-debt-deal-015257133.html

US President Barack Obama set new talks with Republican leaders of the House of Representatives Wednesday in an effort to break a deadlock on a budget compromise to avert a disastrous early August debt default.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said in a Twitter message that the president would meet with top Republicans at 2100 GMT following discussions with leaders of Obama's Democratic party.

"The president will meet with Speaker (John) Boehner and Majority Leader (Eric) Cantor at the White House today at 5 pm," the message said.
