Hat's off to all the Delivery Folks out there working in this heat.
The UPS, Fed-Ex, Hostess, Wonder Bread, Pepperidge Farm, Brownberry, Entemann's, Snyders, Frito-Lay and all getting the goods to the stores alike, often in trucks with nothing resembling a/c.

Hard working folks that often don't get a second thought.

1. I think that would be a fun job. Except for times of extreme heat/cold.

4. Agreed
Another group of hard working folks that are part of the "just making things work" segment of our society of which we tend to forget.

12. Start right before dawn..
Get set up by flashlight, as soon as there's enough light to see what you're doing you commence to get as much as possible done before it becomes unbearable. I've had big portable fans on the job powered by a generator before, that helps a good bit too..

Two cords is a lotta logsplitting.

That stuff's a lot more fun in the winter than the summer, I have about a cord's worth in a heap that needs to be thrown on the trailer and then stacked, something I'd love to find a younger and stronger back for.

8. And the construction folks, and agricultural workers, and roofers, ...
and a long, long list.

I start to complain about walking from my car across the lot to my building -- then I notice the guys in hard hats working on a dig in part of the lot.

I used to work the tobacco fields. Cutting tobacco in the August sun is not my idea of fun. Housing was tough too. I would always call for unloading the trailers, even though I have to handle every stick of tobacco. On the truck you are not 10 to 20 ft off the ground, up near the hot tin roof.

This is a small barn compared to the ones I've worked.

You can't imagine how filthy you get housing tobacco. Tobacco is nasty stuff.

9. My mail route was 10 miles long. I would go through
one gallon of water on the hot days. The other carriers wondered why my shirt was soaking wet. That was because I kept hydrated. In those six hours I never had to pee. I was sweating it all out. Walking on cement and asphalt didn't make it much easier in the heat. Still, it was better than being stuck in a delivery vehicle. Those things are like a fucking oven. The puny fan in them just blows hot air from the windshield or the top of the van.

24. Thank You
I think a whole lot of hard working folks get ignored in our day to day activity and once in awhile they need to be recognized for both their work & the often difficult conditions in which they perform their jobs to make our world's just a bit better. :hi:

15. Ever work in a factory? It's not outside but there is no such thing as
air conditioning when you are working in a foundry or other factory that makes things with hot molten iron or plastic. It's at least 20* hotter inside than out.

18. I'll take my hat off to me- around 90 today and I cook in a tiny kitchen
with the oven blasting for hours, and I do it 6 days a week. Usually I have only one or at the most two wait staff- so here's to Mavis and Roy who do all the setting up, clearing, dish washing and cleaning. We had 55 people today for lunch and teas, and it's not like they're all in some air conditioned dining room- they're spread out all over in the tea garden, on the screened in porch and gazebo.

My blue moon beer never tasted so good.
