We need to look deep inside... |
|
Mostly I am talking about the progressives, myself included.
We have stood on the sideline much too long.
Contrary to some thoughts, there is a difference between the far left and the far right in this country.
If we don't think it, if we don't say it, if we don't do it, then, who will? The answer is "no-one".
It is unfortunate that the Tea Party was a bunch of nuts. We really needed someone that could put pressure on the status quo. Now, as we see, the Tea Party doesn't even know what the "status quo" is? We needed progressives to stand up and they did not. Therefore, the Tea Party filled the vacuum. And they stink almost as bad as a skunk at a picnic.
I tend to think "progressives" have been taken for granted? The politicians don't want to address any progressive issues but they always want our votes. This has gone on much too long.
They need to understand that progressives are united. Without progressives, you, Mr Politician, will lose power.
So what do progressives want anyway?? I don't think they are asking for much? They only want to know that they are both fighting on the same side. They want to hear their politicians say that they will protect the social safety net, that the blood and sweat of working Americans created. They don't especially like politicians to gamble with this safety net. It is not a game.
If "everyone" must sacrifice, then why not let the entire Bush taxcuts expire? Don't exempt anyone. Yes, it will make it tough on many working people but if everyone must sacrifice, then why not those that benefitted from the Bush taxcuts in their entirety?
We want to hear politicians encourage union activity. People are strong when they hang together, and not always just over money. There are principles that progressives support and they have not pushed those principles onto the Democratic Party. Why?
It is time to take a stand. Is that asking too much?
.

That's a good analogy. That's the way I feel sometimes.

2. It's not just far left, not just left, it's also moderates. |
|
All who don't want to see the poor and middle class shat upon again in favor of the rich. All who don't want to see cuts to SS and Medicare, to Medicaid and other social programs. We all need to be in the streets for a mid-summer American spring.
We've been betrayed before: LBJ with Vietnam. But the public is much more with this on SS and Medicare than it was in the late 60s on Vietnam.
And we need to be dedicated to the needs of Americans, not to those of any party. If we can bring the Democratic Party with us, good. If not, we still need to act.

6. We can't do it here; some of the things that need to be said (about strategy and the like)... |
|
...directly contradict the rules of this site.

7. Are there rules against organizing? |
|
We can organize without discussing strategy or details. DU has proven itself a great place to organize in the past.
