GOP senator urges media not to talk about Palin’s violent rhetoric

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) urged CNN's Candy Crowley Sunday not to mention Fox News' Sarah Palin in connection with the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).

------------Crowley turned to Alexander for his view.

"Is it over the line politically these days, given the kind of climate we're in, to be talking about or graphically showing a politician in the crosshairs or talking about taking them out? Was it over the line, sort of specifically, since it's now being talked about everywhere, Sarah Palin's web ads for people she would like to see targeted for political defeat?" she asked.

"Well, Candy, I think you're responsible, by bringing this up, of doing the very thing you’re trying to condemn," Alexander shot back. "You're making and implying a direct connection between Sarah Palin and what happened."

"I think the way to get away from it is for you not to be talking about it," he added.

Apparently Fox News agrees with the senator from Tennessee because when Palin's name was mentioned at a vigil for Giffords, they cut the video feed.

1. FAUX now has the unenviable role of playing the little Dutch boy
in a futile attempt to hold back the floodwaters of truth about Crosshairs Palin and her violent rhetoric.

4. I'm equally concerned with Beck's depiction of FEMA concentration camps.
My neighbor, a nice but fairly stupid woman, watches Beck and loves Palin. She TRULY believes that Obama plans to put her and her husband into FEMA concentration camps. She believes that "Obamacare" will kill off old people, "just like Hitler." She also believes that it's dangerous to have a "Muslim" and "Socialist" in the White House. She is a reasonable person in other aspects of her life... brings us cookies for Christmas, etc. But she truly has been brainwashed into believing that they will be herded like cattle into a camp if they don't stop Obama.

THAT is irresponsible, just as Palin's repeated use of dangerous language an imagery. She was just as guilty of this during the election. This is why the Secret Service is overloaded with threats against Democrats now. This is the rhetoric that they've all been using. And now the repubs are imploring us and the media to not connect the two???? REally? We are irresponsible to point out the violent and dangerous rhetoric, but HAVING that rhetoric on a major news station is NOT? That's fucking unreal.

2. We're not supposed to "generalize"...

I had a post locked for "generalizing". I guess we have to figure that all Republicans and Teabaggers, and talk show hosts are innocent of any part of this. To do otherwise would be "generalizing". Too Bad. This used to be DU.

5. Why can't we all be as wise as the learned and esteemed senior senator from
TN to realize there is absolutely no connection between the stream of RW hate being continuously spewed forth and some deranged people acting on their ideologically-driven impulses of rage.
