1. one was seen running along the shore trying to help (radio report this
morning). How sad and horrible for this to happen. It is a beautiful falls. I was there a few years ago.

2. We were just there in early June.
Hiked up the Mist Trail past Vernal Falls to the top of Nevada Falls. It was one of the top 20 or so day hikes I've done in my life.

3. Yet, they haven't recovered the bodies.
The story seems a bit odd to me.

5. The river is running fast and hard this year, even this late into July.

6. I'm very familiar with Yosemite...
I still find the story odd.

4. I was thinking Darwin Award before I clicked through to your post but

it may not be apropo though as I heard there was no safety railing and the water was running harder than usual and they may not have understood the danger.

It's too bad people died. May they rest in peace.

7. The story says there was a guardrail
Witnesses reported to park officials that several people urged the group member to step back from the river, since it was flowing swiftly and extremely cold. The area is signed as a dangerous area, and the group had crossed a metal guardrail placed there to keep visitors away from the dangerous fast moving water.

My condolences, but if the Darwin award fits, they'll have to wear it.

:(

10. Ok, so yea. I heard about it while out running errands and was only partially
paying attention. Thanks for the clarification.

If they went over the rail on purpose, then yea, Darwin nom. :hi:

9. You heard wrong. There IS a guardrail, the article I read had a pic of it.
How high the water was is irrelevant. Anybody with half a brain knows that you risk death if you ignore warning signs and climb over guardrails like those stupid people did.

11. Thanks, kestrel. Yea, I was running errands and admit was pre-occupied. If they
did purposely go over the rail, then they were stupid enough to get dead from their stupidity. Unusual, I would think, for that many fatally-stupid people to all be at the same place at the same time to get themselves killed.

I hope they at least had a good view of Yosemite immediately before they checked out.

CLIMBED OVER THE GUARDRAIL, and then 3 of them paid the price for their hubris.
