It lowers tax rates, supposedly raising revenue by cutting exemptions, it cuts entitlement programs. Why aren't they rushing to sign on the dotted line?

3. It would be an absolute disaster for Obama..
but I'm guessing that these Republicans also know that such an economically destructive move could ruin their own re-election chances.

11. Wouldn't that be the ultimate double-head-fake. The GOP embraces it, Obama has to sign it.
We're all f-cked. Nobody gets out alive from that one.

6. Ding...ding! with a side of pushing a deal further if not for immediate results
to frame the Gang or Catfood as liberal so that such nonsense is as far from their ideal as is possible.

13. At least 4 reasons
1. Because Obama is for it
2. Because they want their so-called "balanced budget amendment"
3. Because it's their nature to no be supportive or agreeable
4. Because compromise is against their "religion"

14. I was told in GDP that even though Obama praised the plan....
he really didn't want the plan and knew that if he sounded supportive of the plan, the GOP would then come out against the plan because they will oppose anything he supports.

Make sense?

Apparently it's some crazy hyper-dimensional chess shit.

18. Because both parties are looking for political cover
This is all grandstanding bullshit. Hence the ongoing "secret" top level meetings between the House, Senate and Administration.

I predict it will work something like this:

The "compromise" will be full adopted, but narrowly to make it look like there was a real fight (when this entire thing is as staged as the WWE). Reps like Pelosi and Stoyer on our side will "get" to vote no, while the TP's on the right will as well. They save political face and don't have to explain to the various constituencies why they caved.

So a narrow coalition of Dems and Repubs (no one in the respective leadership positions or the TP) forms and heroically passes the legislation. An identical scenario plays out in the Senate, and Obama signs it into law (at the last hour of course, narrowly averting cataclysmic threat of default--good theater demands a nail biter ending) and everyone congratulates themselves for putting partisanship aside "for the good of the nation".

Oh and for dessert? Chew on this: I can nearly guarantee these loopholes find their way back into future congressional legislation. It's much easier to insert language (said loopholes) with respect to taxes when you have an army of high paid lobbyists doing the dirty work on your behalf. So we will be stuck with significantly lower tax rates for the wealthy that will NEVER, EVER be raised, the loopholes will eventually get legislated back in, and in a couple of years we will be arguing (to no avail) to return to the 2010 "Obama" rates, and another "grand plan" will emerge, and more cuts to our programs...and on and on.
