Alan Grayson's BRILLIANT Way To Save $2 Trillion

How to Save $2 Trillion
byAlan Grayson

I have an idea about how to do that. It's a very simple idea. In fact, I can sum it up in one word, with five letters:

PEACE.

Now, I know that peace may not be as popular as it used to be. The polling is very iffy. The focus groups are mixed. But let's look at the facts.

The Rest!!!!!!

let me second that!!!

Besides, if we stop all these wars, all those people will lose their jobs! And as you know, there's NOTHING that needs doing around here!

Than the industrial military complex won't make a PROFIT this year! :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

I agree. Time to Shut these bastards down by stopping the wars, and the war making machine. If you consider how much money was spent on all these wars, and how some of that could be fixing our own infrastructure, and aiding people with housing, food and the necessities... These Damn Republicans have had their way too long. They knew War was a profit making business.. time to shut this
all down.

59. Trouble is They set it up with a lot of cunning.
By not concentrating weapons manufacturing in a few States, but diversifying into almost every State, they made sure that the more war, the more employment around the whole country. A tragic catch 22. It means that almost every Washington congressperson or senator will have a hard time getting re-elected if they propose military spending cuts. If it only affected a few States they may be able to get away with absorbing the voter backlash.

37. Even Better...
...would be Alan Grayson challenging Obama for the Democratic nomination or running for president on a third party ticket. Even if he lost (which he most likely would), at a minimum he'd force Obama to move to the left and stop kowtowing to the Republicans and his misguided attempts to effect "bi-partisanship" at the expense of core Democratic values.

39. One thing that I think he could mention
Is that making the first $35k/$70k tax free would inject over $300 billion directly into the economy. The people most affected by this tax break are the people most likely to SPEND that money on goods and services. I'm sure producers would like a $300 billion bump in demand, which would lead to more jobs to meet that demand, which would mean more spending....

40. can you imagine a full press massive FDR style jobs program
As we funneled money into NASA for the moon race, a similar race for green energy-alternative energy. Massive infrastructure projects and public transportation project-high speed rail.

By getting rid of the massive MIC, we could create alternative jobs to build our country up again. And, that would be more of an investment making for a healthy country and a healthy citizenry.

We don't need someone using a slogan like "hope and change" and doing the same thing--we need someone having a clear vision for the future and acting upon it-for the people, for mom and pop businesses, ethical corporations (the few). We don't need people attempting to control us by the use of fear tactics--my god, they've been doing it for over ten years-it's one catastrophe after another. Fear causes ones capacity to reason to diminish, just like the lemmings over the cliff.

We need someone with a bold, positive vision for the people-Grayson? Sanders? Kuccinich? Kennedy, Jr.?

56. I've been saying this for years!!! I lived through Vietnam era
and one thing I know is that war costs money and there always seems like a downturn and a recession afterwards. We need to stop the war and close some of our overseas bases that are hangovers from WWII and Korea. Stop embargoing Cuba and stop building half a trillion dollar embassies in Baghdad. That should get quite a savings right there.

61. Profits are one motivation for war, but there is another...
the Unitary Presidency.

If my reading of this cryptic philosophy is in order, it holds that we Americans have certain rights in the Constitution, but they can be negated by a national crisis. Who can declare a national crisis? Why the president. And what is a national crisis? Why war, of course. And we know how liberally-defined "war" has become: War on Terrorism, War on Drugs, etc. So, the requirement for the Unitary Presidency (which is nothing but straight-line authoritarianism) is to have SOME kind of war, to make this legal charade appear at least plausible. This is why our country must maintain a state of PermaWar.

We can certainly oppose PermaWar, just as some of us oppose the War on Drugs. But we need to get beyond the crass economic determinism that underwrites (and kills off) so much discussion and renders an atmosphere of worldly cynicism and defeat. I find it ironic that even some on the Teabag Right have come to question our wars. Certainly, MSM is not covering war protests much, but opposition to PermaWar has begun to broaden.

Sooner or later, we in the conjured remnants of the "left" will have to talk with the Tea Party movement.

But, really, can we count the dividend of defusing the military industrial complex? Do we really need a Black Op Budget?

So many people blew off Dennis Kucinich's "Dept of Peace", but isn't that what Grayson is talking about?

72. As Thom Hartmann mentioned this week Eisenhower campaigned on peace platform
that was back in the 1950s after WWII and the Korean War, and Eisenhower was a Republican...and in the decade before the likes of Birchers and Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan took over the party. In contrast, George McGovern (Democrat) lost in 1972 on his anti-war platform. And very few in modern establishment Washington want to talk about peace...that's why there's an entire party devoted to that idea (Peace and Freedom!)
