So: Had enough appeasement yet?
Edited on Sun Jan-09-11 03:32 PM by MannyGoldstein
18 years of appeasing the fringe-right, and where are we?

Gun crazies shooting politicians, 50 million in poverty, one in five on food stamps, real unemployment of almost 20%, and Social Security on the chopping block. Oh, and foie gras and sumptuous wines for the bankers, paid for with our tax dollars.

I think we need a New Deal, not a Third Way. What do you think?

3. I've way past having had enough
but it's going to take more than tapping out our frustrations on an internet discussion board to effect change. What it will take to translate this into action, I don't know. Personally, I'm practically ready to play Tonto to the first Lone Ranger who comes along with a good idea!

Democrats would use this event to go "Alan Grayson" on Republicans. We need more of that in the House and in the Senate.

and impeach him for lying about an affair with a consenting adult.

Democrats at the top should have learned their lesson then, but they are not trying to win over VOTERS, they are trying to win over the wealthy patrons of the GOP, to prove that they are more reliable stewards of the interests of the wealthy, hence the presence of economic typhoid marys like Larry Summers and Robert Rubin in the Obama administration and now another corporate apologist appointed as chief of staff.

We are not the participants in our government anymore than we are participants in what we watch on TV.

15. 18? Try thirty!
I'm middle-aged by pretty much any definition, and my ENTIRE adult life has been dominated by a retrograde neo-feudalism pretty much without even a breather. Maybe the first couple years of Clinton's Administration were a bit of respite, but it's been grim ever since.

I was in College when Reagan was elected. Now, we have MUCH more religion in politics and life, much less of a social safety net, the debt is approximately 15 times larger, working wages are lower, we're in two stupid wars and on and on and on.

Sadly, we're stuck with Obama. It would be nice to have a REAL challenge and empower the left, but it's not feasible. What we CAN do, though, is influence policy as much as possible and keep our hand in.

Oceania will prevail.

Appeasement only guarantees that we, the average people, end up losing.

There's nothing to be gained from trying to "compromise" with these dangerous thugs.

What a sorry state of affairs.

Can't wait for the inevitable speech from Obama telling us how awesome Republicans are because of this tragedy.
