Busted: Tea Party emails members urging them to describe shooter as "liberal lunatic"
Edited on Sun Jan-09-11 03:34 PM by Ian David
Showing no sign of tamping down on divisive political rhetoric in the wake of the shooting of 20 people that left six dead in Tuscon Saturday, the Tea Party Nation group e-mailed its members Sunday warning them they would be called upon to fight leftists in the days ahead and defend their movement.

TPN founder Judson Phillips, in an article linked off the e-mail "The shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and the left's attack on the Tea Party movement," described the shooter as "a leftist lunatic" and Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik as a "leftist sheriff" who "was one of the first to start in on the liberal attack." Phillips urged tea party supporters to blame liberals for the attack on centrist Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who was shot through the head and is now fighting for her life, as a means of defending the tea party movement's recent electoral gains.

"The hard left is going to try and silence the Tea Party movement by blaming us for this," he wrote. Clinton used the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing to "blame conservative talk radio, especially Rush Limbaugh" and "The tactic worked then, backing conservatives off and possibly helping to ensure a second Clinton term."

"The left is coming and will hit us hard on this. We need to push back harder with the simple truth. The shooter was a liberal lunatic. Emphasis on both words," he wrote.

35. That is one of the stupidest memes ever.
I guess they base that on the fact that the word socialist was used in the name Nazi, but Rast Germany was known as the German Democratic Republic, and it was neither democratic nor a republic. Duh! Anyone with even a passing understanding of European history knows that the Nazis were fascists - the far right. Hell, even the dimwit neo-nazis in our country today know that they're on the far right. Double duh!

Often, when there is a tragedy, even one involving someone they don't like, some freepers will compete with each other to be the first to post "Prayers up!" I didn't see a single such post this time. Very strange, ... or just the FreeRepublic & Teabags drifting ever more embittered and vicious, a trend over the years.

And, because of it, he was an easy mark. Used by Palin, Beck, etc., to do their dirty work. He was used by the right wing as an assassin. Most liberals don't use people that way. We expect the people who are in our big tent to use their big brain, not get brainwashed for any of our causes.

45. One other thing I've seen the "liberal" meme based on is that Giffords is a blue dog...
I don't subscribe to that basis, but I have seen some nasty comments to the effect that he was a far-left liberal who hated her pro SB-1070 stance with some cherry picked anti-blue dog quotes from Kos to back it up. Of course there are also some of those "Hitler was a liberal" and "MLK was a Republican" things thrown in there as well.
I'm not necessarily going to call him a Teabagger or blame Beck and Palin, though. He seems far beyond any of their ravings in some weird Paultard Libertarian conspiracy fringe of the right wing. Teabaggers are crazy, but I don't think they're THAT obsessed with correct grammar and such.

59. I saw 1 thing.... though it's a stretch
I noticed he ranted about currency and specifically about "In God We Trust" on US currency.

I would imagine the right will get a 2fer for that one... liberal ( i mean really would a conservative every consider that phrase a problem), and presumably... atheist,,, or at least that conclusion will be jumped to in favor of the separation of church and state.

It did concern me though, because if there is one thing that can trump the usual scape goating,,, liberal, minority, poor, gay, etc.... its lack of faith. I'm an out gay liberal atheist, and i've found the one thing that can really get people going, is the atheist...

I'm just waiting for this one to become "news"

27. I came across this on WND
In her Twitter postings, Parker wrote of Loughner, "As I knew him he was left wing, quite liberal and oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy."

She also described him as "more left."

Read more: Media covering up alleged shooter's liberal politics? http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=249293#ixzz1Aat6051K

Ms Parker supposedly knew Loughner in high school. Loughner is reported to be 22 years old. He would have graduated from high school in 2007 (he did not graduate). The earliest references I can find regarding the 2012 Mayan prophecy is the same year the movie was made (2009). Therefore, it is unlikely Loughner would have known about the prophecy before 2009. Hence, Ms. Parker's reference to his fascination with the subject in high school, as well as his political leanings, become suspect.

86. Do not confuse me with supporting ANY statement attributing this...
...man's beliefs to the left.

However, I am a person who is doggedly committed to truth in debate. That said...

The Mayan 2012 thing is something that a very small number of people have known about for YEARS. It wasn't common topic, it certainly wasn't in the news, but I knew about it before Y2K had ever been dreamt up. I would not discount this Parker on that one thing alone.

And that's all I have to add. Like I said, don't take it as me supporting her view of him -- I think he makes his views readily apparent in the drivel he has posted online, regardless of what he once MAY have believed. I just wanted to clear the record on that one little piece.

Or something similar around March last year, and I contributed to it trying to keep it live.

Do you know the one I mean and have you got a link to it?

Personally, I think there should be a thread like that pinned to the top. How about we get a group started just to post all this stuff in so we can catalog it all and for easy access?

50. It was reported that he was an Independant
But that was on the TV News so is likely bullshit. You can bet there's coverup going on. Fox and CNN are probably doing a big dump run even today.

43. A matter of perspective
When you're spiraling down the toilet to the right, every direction except further down the toilet looks like it's to the left.

51. The shooter writes like a most paranoid Ron Paul follower.
Pols, media, and media owners must tone down the rhetoric and provide legitiment journalism; otherwise violence will increase and be primarily from the unhinged rightwing.

Not necessarily tea bag but totally paranoid. Is that left or right or just plain crazy?

53. The Right Wingers don't get to frame this one
Loughner was pegged as a mentally unstable follower of the right almost from the beginning. Their attempt to frame the assassination attempt on Representative Giffords as a product of a Liberal is a fail.

....flood her Blackberry with this post.
I went to FR and they are slinging another okeefe-breitbart creation they call the last hints liberal that says she was the assailant's friend and he was such a liberal lefty. You know how the right loves a hoax.

He was a WHITE 20-something "Christian???" male! And a TOTAL REDNECK. Just the type they are trying to breed.

76. We all know the right wing
rhetoric has been and continues to fuel the weak and disturbed minded out there to take horrific action, killing or trying to kill people. We have plenty of examples but it takes real courage by people like the sheriff and the lady that disarmed the gunman, to stand up and say it out loud in plan language to their faces.

It's time to take there example, not just pundits on news shows but all of us in our daily lives to call them on it. Just a simple comment of "I don't like that kind of violent speech, or hate speech." If you call into CSPAN and have heard a former caller or the person being interviewed saying some violent statement, then mention it on air.

Stop watching Fox. Stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and all the other over the top people who make their living by exciting violence and hate. I know many people who do watch and listen, only for the outrage. They think by confronting what O'Reilly said in their video is doing something...it's not. The only way to kill this sort of thing is to not participate.

Switch your focus on what good stuff is going on in Washington, there's plenty of stuff to discuss and evaluate.

Face it, it takes two to tango. The dance is over when one stops dancing.

77. Neal Boortz is doing just that right now.
He said they took him off the air today in Tuson. He is using the same words that the email told them to use in describing the shooter and the sheriff. They still don`t get it.

80. Might he be a Sarah Palin "Lock & Load Liberal"?
Of course we all know that just about any garden variety liberal would be immediately provoked into violent action by listening to rhetoric of "2nd Amendment Solutions" (a-la-Sharron Angle), or looking over the list of Palin's "targeted" Democratic congressmen, not to mention having Giffords' most recent GOP opponent inviting prosepective constituents to an M-16 / live ammo shoot-em-up campaign rally. Yup, we sure know where this Loughner guy was coming from, don't we? The American left is at it again!

98. Here's How The Teabaggers Roll!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/dailybeast/11742_gabriellegiffordsteapartytarget">Gabrielle Giffords: Tea Party Target

Giffords' Republican opponent in the race, Jesse Kelly, whom she narrowly defeated, held a campaign event in which he invited supporters to shoot a machine gun. “Get on target for victory,” an ad for the event read. “Help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office. Shoot a fully a automatic M16 with Jesse Kelly,” the ad continued.

As Giffords’ father rushed to the hospital after his daughter was shot, the New York Post asked him if his daughter had any enemies. “Yeah,” he said. “The whole Tea Party.” He continued: "They always get threat. We don’t really have any information. The police department was supposed to call us but they didn’t."

This may explains why the teabaggers are ramping up their propaganda about their feign innocence.
