Lets Say the Teabaggers Win
What is the worst that could happen?

Would the government just shut down? Would the cops just stay home? The troops told to go back to momma?

No more welfare checks? No SS, no medicare, no ATC, no prisons?

Seems that is precisely what would make them happy: the US government just close its doors and quit taxing anything. Does it seem to you that is their American dream?

1. More like the markets crash
and interest rates skyrocket. Unemployment goes way up and round 2 of the down turn. That's bad enough.

5. My guess is that we would get hyper-inflation as the value
of the dollar vs. other currencies goes down and as interest rates rise. It would, no doubt, be the end the dollar as a reserve currency, which would make it much harder to borrow. The govt. would either have to pay high interest rates to entice lenders and/or print money, either of which would fuel inflation. Rich people and corporations who are sitting on piles of cash would probably start buying up gold, hard assets such as land, and foreign currencies as a hedge against inflation. Savings would lose most of their value; those with fixed-rate mortgages would get to make their payments in deflated dollars--assuming they had an income.

sound/think like they even made it out of grade school.

rights (they won't stop at marriage) and abortion. War with Iran. Further deregulation of banking leading to another mortgage crisis. Expanded domestic drilling plus deregulation leading to another BP spill. They expand GITMO and start sending US citizens there.

And god forbid we have a disaster like a hurricane or earthquake or tsunami. If you thought Katrina was bad...

3. Judging from their comments and positions, that is their dream, anarchy! At that
point the US would fail and other countries would take over the US financially, or a banking cartel, brushing aside the teabaggers and faithful as irrelevant fools. Many of the teabaggers IMO are functionally illiterate and ignorant.

9. And they are more than willing to make this happen. Teabaggers are true believers.
I know the conventional wisdom is "a deal will happen because Repub donors want the debt ceiling raised" But that does not take into account the teabaggers who control the house. They are ideologues and they believe their crazy ideology. It sounds to me like their resolve is hardening, They think it will be "no big deal" to default.

6. They'd be happy until a hurricane hits, the crops dry up, they don't have a job, or have to go to a
hospital, and then they will be screaming for the federal government to rescue them.

More mortgage defaults, rents will increase, no available credit, more layoffs because nobody is buying anything, small businesses will go under And on and on and on.

13. From a sociological perspective....

...it would be interesting to see how free markets evolve without the 'democratic' influence of a government. Private interest would rule, which leads me to believe that every petty bureaucrat, from the cop on the street to the psychos in the Pentagon, would be free to behave as they wished.

OTOH, the 'new-agers' might be right in saying that community and co-operation will blossom.

14. Actually, the only way to get anything done will be with bribery.
Just like in all the other 3rd world countries.

17. Yep, that, and there would be pockets of power, war lords and protection
services. In short, IMO, we would descend rapidly into even more of a 3rd world country. On top of that the decay of the infrastructure would accelerate greatly. Hopefully Canada and Mexico might take refugees. Additionally our standing in the world would really accelerate to the bottom of the barrel. And our currency would fluctuate wildly. We would also probably see militant religion really raise its ugly head. And our return to some degree of stability would take a very very long time.
