Now Two Murdoch Whistleblowers Dead
http://yesbuthowever.com/two-murdoch-whistleblowers-dead-5000943/

(YBH) – First it was Big George Webley who relayed a fear of the Murdoch machine and wound up dead. Now it’s Sean Hoare. Two British media whistleblowers. Two untimely deaths.

Let’s assume that neither was killed by Rupert Murdoch (toxicology reports haven’t been made available; foul play isn’t suspected by British authorities in either case), but something happened that put the fear of God into both men. Neither was known as a lunatic before their demise, both simply told the truth to British authorities about what they knew of Mr. Murdoch’s enterprises and died afterward at a relatively young age.

Mr. Hoare’s role in the evolving scandal is obvious: he worked at News of the World and broke the scandal wide open by charging his former editor, and then Prime Minister David Cameron’s Communications Director Andy Coulson, with lying about his role in NOTW’s phone hacking. Big George, for his part, allegedly revealed in private testimony to British authorities the fact that the Sky TV show he worked on in the early 90′s ,”Jameson Tonight”, had routinely bugged the dressing rooms of guests looking for scoops. Mr Webley’s charge was relevant because News Corp.’s initial defense was that the hacking at NOTW was the work of a rogue reporter. Big George’s charge threw cold water on that defense by helping to establish a pattern of subterfuge over many years at Murdoch-owned enterprises.

At first, Big George’s April 29th frantic phone call to me (eight days before his death at age 53, details here) didn’t make much sense. Now that the scandal has broken wide open a few things are much clearer:

5. Any actuaries here on DU?
Please calculate the odds that two whistleblowers would die just prior to a full-blown investiagation of the wrongdoing both corpses could testify to.

6. Don't know where I'd get the accurate
and full data, but my guess it would be a billion-to-one.

Seriously, if not more.

8. Right then, nothing suspicious about those deaths
Just like the 18 materials witnesses to the JFK assassination dying under so-called mysterious circumstances.
No mystery at all, as it turns out.

14. Depends on the total number of whistleblowers
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 12:22 PM by Recursion
If X is the total number of whistleblowers, then the formula is

50000 / X

compare that to the all-cause death-rate in England for men in their 30s.

Probably wouldn't be very useful for two reasons:
1) actuarial tables are not helpful for individuals, only populations
2) one of the whistleblowers was an alcoholic and drug addict which means his mortality rate was much higher than the baseline to begin with

Also, you'd need a PMF for deaths in a given year (naively model it as a Poisson process, I suppose) before you could talk about the "odds"

3. This is starting to sound like the JFK cover-up
My memory is failing but something like 22 material witnesses to the JFK's death turned up dead themselves.

9. He died on the 7th May
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/george-webley-maverick-radio-presenter-musician-and-composer-of-the-theme-tune-for-have-i-got-news-for-you-2284962.html

He was well known enough to get obituaries in papers; broadcaster on the large BBC London radio station, writer of various TV theme tunes (eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9jeq2Km0wE). He had had an earlier heart attack in 1996, so you might say that another heart attack is not suspicious.

12. I used to rent 1/2 my house and a guy died in there. It was treated like a crime
until they proved it was not a crime. They put the tape up and everything. I was nervous because I didn't know how he died. But when the autopsy said natural causes then the case was over.

Did they do autopsies on these 2 men already including toxicology reports?
