How can we Americans maintain a democracy in ignorance?
To me the issue is the U.S. media not living up to its First Amendment obligation to bring us important news. U.S. soldiers are being killed and maimed and vastly more of them are coming back with PTSD and will need long term care, yet virtually none of their stories are being told. They and their families are invisible. America is in dire financial straits yet is spending billions of dollars a month in these wars, but this is not worthy of coverage even as politicians debate a debt ceiling. How can we Americans maintain a democracy in ignorance?

3. Well, we seem to have the ignorance
pretty well figured out. It's the Democracy part that seems problematic.

4. We can't. And that's what they are counting on - the ignorance (and apathy) of most Americans who
could care less about politics and are not paying attention to any of this.

By the time the majority of Americans realize what has hit them, the ink will be dry on the paper.

6. I think you are right.
As you stated, "By the time the majority of Americans realize what has hit them, the ink will be dry on the paper."

8. I look among my family and friends and my neighborhood...I've yet to find a
single person outside the local Democratic Party headquarters that has the slightest idea what is going on. And worse, they don't give a damn.

I think TPTB know this and have realized, after 8 years of fucking us over by the bush gang, that Americans aren't paying attention, even when you take everything away from them - like their jobs and their homes.

You would think the millions that have fallen victim to these scams would rise up in anger at least. But, really, not so much as a whimper compared to what should be happening.

7. Who says we are?
There's not much evidence that we are maintaining anything close to a democracy.
