4. Actually...
If there is any spending in the bill, it has to originate in the House, per the constitution.

5. And That People Complain, Ma'am, Loudly And Continually, Is Why The Senate Will Not Pass It
Without vociferous protest, the thing quickly would become law, in something very close to its present form.

8. Wrong. People here are reacting just as people all over the country are.
And we need as many as possible to call their Congressional reps now, not after we've been bent in two again.

10. A number of senators, such as Sherrod Brown, were not happy
with the (imo) fiasco compromise of the extension of unemployment benefits, but after intense pressure from the White House gave in. I suspect this will happen in this situation as well with even more disastrous results.

I can understand calls for calm, but for many of us this is almost a matter of life or death--perhaps not now, but in our retirement years. We are trying to figure out just how little we can live off of and whether we'll live to make it to Medicare age. A Democratic president should be "modifying" these programs by increasing benefits, not cutting! And absolutely not cutting benefits while giving the wealthiest Americans further tax cuts.

13. Harry Reid has stopped criticizing the plan.
Edited on Thu Jul-21-11 07:08 PM by provis99
He focused today on the red herring "Cut, Cap, and Balance" plan without mentioning the Gang of Six, which indicates to me that within days he will suddenly discover he likes the Gang of Six plan after all.

14. The way I see it
is that Boner suckered the President into accepting his deal, which means only two possibilities:

1) It passes, and we're screwn.

2) It fails, and the Repukes get to pin the blame for the shutdown on our side.
