1. I wonder who caved in this meeting. Will Congressional Dems sell out like Obama has?

4. There might be a few bots but the majority of them know if they vote for....
...cuts to Social Security, they will be relentlessly tagged as such and with 2012 elections just around the corner, it's very difficult to imagine they're going to willingly go to their political deaths with a blank stare and a nod.

Very difficult to imagine that.

6. I don't believe we know what was discussed in that meeting,
or what was even said. You seem to have already made up your mind what's going on. You're going to be pretty embarrassed soon, I'm pretty sure.

8. So, who will ever vote for Sanders other than the left wing of the Democratic Party?
Or was this meant for the alternate universe of DU where reality does not apply?

Here is a secret that many here apparently choose to ignore: a Liberal, Progressive Democrat will never be elected President.

11. Does anyone know with any remote certainty exactly what the makeup of DU may be?
Here is one fact: the vast majority of the American electorate are not Liberal/Progressive Democrats no matter how many here pretend otherwise.

13. A real progressive might win a House seat or Senate seat in usually a Liberal state,
but a real Progressive as people here envision will never be elected President. The numbers are just now there no matter how much people like to pretend and fantasize they are.

15. A progressive can be elected, but a string of moderates have to be
elected first. The country is a center-right country. It has to be moved to the center before large masses of voters see that progressive management of national wealth and key societal investments is not something to be afraid of.

18. You're wrong
I'm not suggesting it would be easy since the candidate would be working against the corporate media and corporate America, but it is definitely possible. We just need the right character. I would say someone ala Brian Schweitzer, but a bit more populist, would be perfect.

The liberal that can win is the populist with a strong streak of Civil Libertarianism (the Glenn Greenwald type of libertarianism, not the right-wing, Ron Paul version) Someone that harkins a bit back to LBJ. Someone who comes out swinging against the airport body scanners, calls right-wingers chickenhawks and wonders why it's okay to steal grandma's life-savings but not okay to steal a loaf of bread.

I think a third party candidate could actually win in 2012. Not Bernie Sanders as much as I love him. But if a candidate could come in and rip to shreds the two parties for kissing Wall Street and moneyed Ass, and not throwing rich people who steal from us in jail they might just have a chance. At the very least it'd be entertaining.

or a centrist again.

14. I will, and so will many millions of the American electorate.
Reality is what it is and not what it is pretended to be. A Liberal Democrat might win a House or Senate seat, or a governorship, but not the presidency.

20. I don't believe that is so.
I also don't believe that in order to advance progressive candidates I must vote for a moderate or a centrist.

21. Have you ever looked at his electoral record?
He Is so politically popular the GOp has basically given up running seriously against him.

And despite what you may think Vermont is not all hippies. Plenty of moderates and hardasses there too.

Something tells me that this isn't a good sign. If the pill were easy to swallow, they would have swallowed it and moved on.

Silence on Obama Meeting Follows Uproar Over Debt Deal Rumors

A spokesman for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said there would be no readout of the meeting, and David Krone, the chief of staff for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), had no comment for reporters walking through the Capitol’s carriage entrance moments after the White House session concluded Thursday evening.
