Walgreens - outsourcing billing/accounting - 500+ jobs
I was talking to a rep that I deal with pretty regularly today from Walgreens:
Her: I may not be available at some times we are starting 12 weeks of Genpact training today
Me: Genpact? is that a new software?
Her: No .....they are outsourcing all of billing and reimbursement to a company called Genpact
Me: Where?
Her: India
Me: So your are training your replacement?
Her: yep

I found a couple of articles on this- some say it is just 150 accounting jobs, some say it is 500 jobs, some say that they are keeping the jobs in Illinois, some say they are "infusing" personnel into Walgreens to learn the business. Read the boardroom speak in the article below. Should be a nice Thanksgiving for the Walgreens operation in Pittsburgh <-- sarcasm.

My boss (let's just say she mentions watching Fox News) was clearly disheartened by this. "I don't know if I want to go there anymore" and she has a kid with daily pharmaceutical needs.

Walgreens, Genpact ink 10-year outsourcing deal

NEW DELHI: US' largest drugstore chain Walgreens on Thursday announced a 10-year outsourcing deal with India's BPO provider Genpact.

As part of the contract, Walgreens will shift its accounting processes and jobs to Genpact, a move that will involve transfer of at least 500 jobs.

"The deal will help us improve cost productivity and facilitate our growth strategy, while maintaining an agile and service-focused organisation," said Walgreens executive vice-president and CFO Wade Miquelon. More and more companies are now moving their accounting jobs to India. Agilent Technologies, American Express, Astra Zeneca, United Health are amongst a few of them.

"We are very excited to have Danville as one of our largest delivery centers in the US. It's a deal with multiple advantages," said Genpact chief operating officer 'Tiger' Tyagarajan. "It will also enable us in providing a range of services for multiple industries, including retail, healthcare and pharmaceuticals from Danville with greater onshore access to our clients."

2. I'm at a loss to see why anyone thinks a bunch of jobs are going to be
created in the US. IMO we have done nothing to stem the mass exodus of jobs from this country. I don't claim to be an expert here, but from what I've heard NAFTA/CAFTA is a disaster and has devastated American jobs.

5. According to MBA Babelfish:

"The deal will help us improve cost productivity and facilitate our growth strategy, while maintaining an agile and service-focused organisation,"

means:

"We can fuck American workers, while at the same time increasing my bonus!"

10. From what I know about Allstate
I have a friend who works there. Well actually, no she works for Kelly temp services, but the vast majority of people now working for Allstate are actually Kelly Temps. They're no longer hiring on real workers. She gets paid $10/hr and no benefits and no chance of actually getting on at Allstate, she's been there a couple of years. Saves Allstate a bundle.

8. If a company outsources jobs to a foreign nation and lays off workers...
then it should be responsible for paying unemployment and providing job reeducation for all the workers until they are reemployed at jobs that pay a similar wage.

If a company brings back outsourced jobs to our nation, then it should qualify for a tax break.

13. CFO Wade Miquelon, license lost, needs supervision
This guy is in "control" of the money.

http://www.dailyfinance.com/2010/10/19/walgreen-cfo-arrested-on-drunk-driving-charges-again/

SNIP
Walgreen (WAG) Chief Financial Officer Wade Miquelon was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving last month, The Chicago Tribune reported. It was his second such arrest in a little more than a year, the paper found in court records.

According to the Tribune, Miquelon, 45, was stopped by police on the evening of Sept. 25, almost exactly a year after being stopped for similar charges. He later accepted court supervision for driving under the influence.

This time, Miquelon was charged with three offenses: having a taillight out, driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence. He will lose his license for three years and have his supervision prolonged, the Tribune reported.
END SNIP
