Is anyone else beginning to freak out?
About this debt ceiling?

I mean, think about how it will affect us personally.

For one, I am getting married on Sept 3. The lady and I have scrimped and saved for the better part of 3 years and we'll be spending almost all of our "rainy day" money for this.

If the economy tanks into epic depression, won't I need that money... to live?

1. Just the opposite.
My attitude is now "let the mutherfucker burn"

I couldn't care less what happens next, because we're hitting bottom one way or another. May as well take Wall Street down with us.

I was also married on September 3rd. Yes I'm starting to freak out as well. I'm worried about my mom not getting her SS and my husband not being able to get Medicare when he goes into end stage renal failure.

I don't give a flying fuck what happens to me. I'll survive somehow. The cruelest joke would be for all of us to go down, and the banksters thrive...again.

Dry 'em out a little and I'd bet they burn like cord wood.

If not, we can necklace them.....

How much does it cost to get married? Is there a refund if you decide to return the partner? Can you take donations to pay the costs?

Will the world go completely bonkers and flip if we bounce off the deficit ceiling and end up with a headache? Nah. But I could be wrong. The last time I thought about getting married was a long time ago, so I really am not the one to ask.

Good luck.

15. Thanks but.
This is just a personal example.

I have a good job, great health insurance, and live in a safe neighborhood. I'd venture to say that a great many people in this community are much less fortunate.

What about the people who need their government incomes to pay the rent? I just... there are no words for how ridiculous this country has become.

23. Here's a phrase: "Don't borrow trouble". I know I'm an
optimist, and the rethugs might start the economic epocalypse, but I have faith even while I have family that will be effected if the worst happens. If it does, I will easily blame it on rethugs who 'have a serious problem w/reality', as Bernie Frank says. "Invinceably ignorant" is another term he used.

It's a game with a lot of people to the detriment of so many. At least people might be paying attention now.

Your OP was about your marriage and your concerns about using your resources for it given the currently evolving national economic situation.

Your observation that "a great many people in this community are much less fortunate" probably applies to many that post here, and it IS something to be concerned about and to work to ameliorate.

But as for your specific wedding plans...I SAY GO FOR IT AND ENJOY IT. You and your fiance' also have a life to live.

And Congratulations!!! :D :toast:

blow up their little theft machine. Seriously, it's more profoundly rigged now that it has been in a hundred years-- there's no way they're going to toss that out the window just to rig it a little more. They'll ramp up the fear as we approach the deadline, of course. But they will not ever pull the trigger. That option is not only off the table, it's outside the room. It'd down the street, in a dumpster.

This is like a mugger holding a gun to his own head and demanding your wallet.

41. Exactly, while a few can make a little scratch on a meltdown, it would grind a lot
of revenue streams to a halt and generally fuck up commerce on a global scale so probably it is a scam and should be treated as such.

33 years ago, a justice of the peace and $50, allowed us marriage while keeping our savings
free to be invested into tangible improvements to our lives.

No regrets.

26. There really is no "maybe" about something happening here.
Its a debate about whether to default on mortgage payments now, or take out another credit card to pay them off, when the real issue is the fact you're still unemployed either way. The more shakeup you see right now the better, because it may just be a shakeup that's needed to get people to see this thing. The president is pushing for the new card, but all that does is save things if the new job (fantastical economic recovery) comes along. I have no reason to think it will, under any leadership that does not bring about basically revolutionary change to just about everything. I also don't see that coming. So that leaves the school of hard knocks to teach us the new ways we need to be, and we'll all be enrolled sooner than the distant future either way.

The economy may tank into an epic depression eventually but it won't be soon enough to leave you in poverty due to spending money on your wedding. On a general note, and irrespective of the national economy, I don't know if spending all of one's rainy day money on a wedding is a good idea but only you can make that decision based on intimate knowledge of your finances and earning potential. And, of course, the generosity of those who will attend your wedding. Congratulations, again, and good luck as you embrace a new future!
