Here's my not so grand deal:
The President makes any deal with the repubs that makes cuts to the social safety net- whether it passes Congress or not- and I don't vote for him next year. Big deal, right? Well, maybe. It depends how many people feel like I do. I'm a die hard voter and for me to reach this conclusion is painful, but I just don't see how I can vote for Obama if he's willing to give on this. Not for the SCOTUS or the environment or anthing else.

1. I live in a building that's almost all SSI/SSDI, the elderly and mentally ill.

Judging from what I'm hearing you're far from alone on this. How to torpedo a political party in one simple step.

3. Same here!
By the way, I recall reading somewhere, and please forgive me, but I don't remember where, that one call to the white house/congress equals x number of constituents. In other words for every call they receive from a constituent it equals x number of people who feel the same way so it never hurts to call and let them know exactly how we feel.

4. Republicans' wet dream
They get the cuts in social programs they've always wanted and and the White House all in one happy transaction.

6. Maybe so, but OBAMA is the one setting up this situation- not me.

7. I am at that point, myself -
and said so outright in a fax to the WH. I really don't know what else to do. I refuse to keep voting against my interests, and the interests of my family and country. At some point we have to be bold enough to stop enabling bad behavior. I will instead focus on getting liberals/progs elected at the Congressional level so that O's worst attempts can be neutrilized.

8. i came to that conclusion over the endless and multitude of wars and drones and destruction
and not helping millions of homeowners keep their homes and reeling in the banks

nothing he does surprises me after that...its heartbreaking but recognizing the truth is always good enough..whether i like it or not
believe me, i wanted something so different from this administration

(Not voting for him, that is.)

10. Mr. Obama has said he would welcome one term if he could be a
really great president in that one term. I think that he believes what he is doing will make him a great president. He will have brought bi-partisanship. I'm wondering, at this point, if he even wants a second term. He's fixed for life so why bother. Great president and then on to bigger and better things. He can pal around with the Bush bunch, etc. I don't think he is even concerned about being re-elected. My opinion, of course.

11. What I find curious is
that many of our friends on DU continue to make note of national popularity polls regarding President Obama. The 2012 election will be decided by electoral votes -- state by state -- not by the popular vote. (I know that I'm not telling you anything that you are not fully aware of.)

Considering that polls demonstrate the public does not favor the republican approach on this issue, I think it is fair to say they will not look favorably on Obama supporting the republican approach. He risks losing a significant block of support. And to the extent it is in closely contested states, the message of this OP is very significant indeed.
