Howard Dean on Morning Joe: "The President has had a great three weeks"
He said Obama has been bludgeoning the GOP and is winning.

I love Howard Dean.

1. And Conason said it would be an odd time for the President to surrender
I agree with both statements.

3. The question is: What would "surrender" look like? As opposed to "agree with"?

4. Yes, it would be odd
OTOH snatching defeat from the jaws of victory is something Dems do too well, and too often.

2. He really needs some different voices advising him...
He is in a conservative vacuum, I think?

14. That's an understatment and one of his biggest problems
which, in turn, is actually one of our biggest problems. He has been misguided all along the way on too many things.

5. What legislation did Obama get over the last 3 weeks
that makes it such a great time? I admit to having been distracted with the brinksmanship on the debt ceiling.

6. Wow, I guess perspective is everything.
I'm trying desperately to believe the best and have faith in our President. I just really don't see how he has been "bludgeoning the GOP and is winning."

I know he has done good and accomplished positive things in the face of incredible adversity. But the positions seem to begin so far in the middle -- middle-right, actually -- that the compromise ends up being more than the Republicans ever imagined.

Perhaps my perspective is skewed, being on DU and all. ;)

I just don't know what to think or believe about this White House or the Democrats any more, though I do know what I'll keep fighting for. I'm clear on where the Republicans stand, that's for certain.

7. Great couple weeks, indeed.
He's been bludgeoning the GOP by handing them everything they want and none of what the Democrats want.

Wonderful indeed.

the president, I believe, is fighting and making compromises with himself.

13. I disagree
The only thing that people will remember is the outcome. Come 2012 they won't remember the last three weeks, but they certainly will remember what happens in the end regarding this debt ceiling. So I think its way way way too early to tell who "wins" from this. We don't even reliably know what the end game will be yet and what gets cut. The final parameters of the deal will imo tell us who won.

15. Remember Howard Dean was a fan of Obama's war...
policies until recently. Both of them have lost credibility.

25. I don't recall him supporting the Iraq war but I did hear him support the Afghan war BUT
that was only because he thought we could save the women from total repression. But he changed his mind and said that the war there is a wasted effort and we need to just leave.

So I still like and trust Dr. Dean.

But if we follow Obama down the road of SS/Medicare cuts, Obama may win, but the rest of us will lose, badly.
