The worst thing about the way the debt talks are going |
|
aside from all the other worst things, of course, is that now it's the Dems who are being painted as obstructionists. Check the headlines:
MSNBC - "Obama faces angry Dems as debt talks hit crunch" LA Times - "Democrats erupt over latest plan on debt ceiling" Wash Post - "Debt talks bring tensions between Democrats, Obama to surface"
I swear to god, if this all ends with the GOP smiling and the media narrative being that the GOP and POTUS triumphed over Democratic opposition, I'm sitting out 2012.

In a bizarre way the House Democrats will have a lot of power in the ultimate outcome on this latest crisis. The rushpublican "plan" crash, burn and destroy will die in the Senate and any plan that hints at increasing revenues will be opposed by the teabaggers. One plans to put out a letter with 90-100 names of rushpublicans who won't vote to raise the debt ceiling no way no how...this means that Boner will need Democrats to make the deal (the same as what happened when they averted a shut down several months ago). We've seen a bunch of kabuki theater as the administration plays to the "independents" and to look like the "adults". No matter, the rushpublicans in the house are so wedded to Grover Norquist along with their visceral hatred of Democrats and this President that they see destroying the economy as a good thing.
Thus any deal struck with the Senate will probably need a good number of House Democrats to pass a final deal. The problem is to get past the 60 votes in the Senate, President Obama has to play along with Senate rushpublicans like Coburn and willing to sell out entitlements to get a "big deaL". Hopefully if he steps too far there won't be enough Democratic votes in the House.

5. And sitting out the next election will solve accomplish...? |
|
Too many people sitting out the mid-terms helped us get where we are today. It may momentarily feel good not to vote, but it helps to elect the opposition.

Who insists on scolding his own party, while talking about how much the batshit insane leaders of the other party's truly love their country and are good people who mean well.

But I sometimes wonder if Obama knows what that little (D) next to his name on the ballot stood for.

11. I have no problems with those headlines. |

The public needs to know the differences in where people stand. Heck, many people think Obama is an extreme liberal.

12. And they still will; that's teh problem |
|
The media narrative will be, "If an extreme liberal like Obama can compromise with the GOP, why do other Dems have such a problem. He is their leader, after all." Just watch, this whole debacle, however it turns out, will ultimately be portrayed as the fault of the unreasonable Congressional Dems.
