West Point cadet dies in training
This young man was an excellent athlete and role model for our small town. He played three sports with my nephews.

West Point cadet dies during training

WEST POINT – A US Military Academy cadet died Thursday, July 21 while participating in field training in the vicinity of Camp Buckner.

Cadet Jacob Bower, 18, of Fairmont, West Virginia, a member of the Class of 2015, was found unresponsive at the local training area at West Point. Immediate attempts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m.

The incident and cause of death are under investigation. The release does not indicate whether Thursday’s extreme heat and humidity may have been a factor.
