If Pres. Obama gives in to GOP demands I will seriously question his intelligence |
|
He has graduated from some of the most prestigious schools in the country and I view him as a very smart, rational, well-thought out person, and possibly one of the only sane politicians in America. He has taken a mostly centrist approach to governing, which, even at times I could look past that as he is President not only of the Liberals but of the conservatives as well, but if he caves to the GOP without caving to the Dems (that just sounds silly) I will seriously have to question his intelligence.
He has the American people completely behind him on protecting Medicare/SS and raising taxes on the rich. Poll after poll shows this to be true. So to go against something that 75-80% of the country is in favor for will make me question his motives. What would make someone go against such HUGE poll numbers like that? He should be at every single meeting touting these poll numbers to the GOPs faces every chance he gets. He should be on TV rallying his base. The country has awoken to the bizarre cult that is the GOP and their agenda and is on his side.
I didn't know democracy was when the House controls the Senate and the Presidency. And it's disgusting that the GOP is kowtowing to Grover Norquist, an un-elected person who represents no one yet controls an entire political party.
This is a big IF because I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but if he does in fact give in to GOP demands without giving in to Dem demands then not only will I have to seriously question his intelligence and motives but I think we're all going to have to come to terms with the fact that he may actually be a moderate republican. Again, a big IF. I hope he proves me wrong. I hope what we're hearing are just BS rumors. Either way, he should be rallying his base against this obvious class warfare....Because THAT'S what a Democrat would do.
The worst part about this is watching the Dems squander another chance to not only rally their base, but the entire country as well. This issue alone could have been a huge rallying call not only FOR our party but AGAINST the GOP and put them on the serious defensive. They (Dems) could have held townhalls and completely crushed their opposition on this very issue. Instead, here we are, catering to the party whose special interests aren't in the special interest of 98% of Americans. This one issue could have spawned a whole new workers rights uprising/revolution. This one issue could have brought ALOT of new members into the Dem party and put the GOP in their place for decades. Lets hope what we're hearing is just rumors....
It doesn't make sense that someone with such intelligence would even be thinking of cutting programs for our citizens while letting billionaires off the hook. Medicare and SS are America's greatest accomplishments, both policy wise and morally speaking.

bargaining chips for a true Democrat, liberal, centrist or otherwise.
If Democratic principles are being changed to accommodate our President's view, well then it's ME that doesn't fit anymore.
for the record - I donated money I couldn't afford in 08 and knocked on hundreds of doors for our then unlikely candidate...... we helped spur a mini-revolution and feel as though we are getting NOTHING in return.
If we trade 3 trillion in program cuts for tax cuts set to expire REGARDLESS, I will write in Bernie Sanders in '12.
sorry, ramblings.
Either way, Obama is neither stupid or naive.

A lot of people, including some Dems, have spent the majority of the time rallying people against the President. It's a pointless exercise as anyone can see. It breeds distrust, but I guess they working toward a goal, not sure what, but they're busy.

7. I don't question his intelligence at all, but I do sometimes question his |

motives and agenda. We'll know better, of course, in a little while ... but IMO a golden opportunity has been lost to have restructured this country with a great deal of fairness for all, but mostly what I've seen is propping up of wall street and the banksters. That said, this is not an Obama bash, I like him, but I am seriously questioning his motives and agenda.

9. He's not stupid or naive.... |

I think it's a combination of being savvy enough to know where the money is to be had and playing to that side of things, and also being far too enamored of his own legacy and skills and more concerned with whether he's being portrayed as some shining knight of bipartisanship. He's too concerned with things being "Grand" and "Historic" and more concerned with what the Grand Dames of the beltway media think of him and say about him and less about what is actually good for the country.
Why someone in his position would not have pointed out 10 million times already "THESE SAME PEOPLE VOTED TO RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT ANY NUMBER OF TIMES UNDER MY PREDECESSORS. WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN NOW DO THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH IT?!?!?!?"
Why someone in his position would not have pointed out 10 million times already "MY OPPONENTS REFUSE TO RAISE TAXES ON MILLIONAIRES AND INSIST ON CUTTING SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE AND MEDICAID!!!!!!"
Instead he lauds their patriotism and praises how much they love their country and then turns around and scolds democrats and progressives.
