He was in the store because the suspect ripped him off (didn't pay). Looks like his story checks out. Sometimes a coincidence is just a coincidence. He probably is the luckiest cab driver in the world, could have ended up the 6th person killed that day.

The shooter didn't pay him for the ride, so the guy went looking for him, but he wasn't involved in the incident at all. Probably feels terrible about having provided transportation for the asshole.
