Father of 9 year old victim - Shooting is price of freedom, no more restrictions on society
Just caught him on Faux while flipping channels for more news - said travel was nightmare since 9/11, thinks like this happen in a free society, wants "no more restrictions".

I gathered he opposed both the tighter restrictions on flight passengers as well as further gun control.

Heart wrenching interview.

1. Father of the fucking Year.
Probably not. Child ain't even in the grave and an agenda has been set and proclaimed. Sad bastard.

3. I believe I would
Timing seems rather unfortunate.

But he's grieving so it's understandable he'd make poor decisions.

8. I will take your word for that. I suspect the overall outcry would be much lower though. nt

5. I sorta respect that.
"Safety at all costs" cannot be our guiding principle.

6. At least he stands by his principle and what he says is the truth.
The likelihood you will die in a mass shooting and/or teorrorist event is a rounding error. People are thousands of times more likely to die in a car crash because the other driver was reckless or distracted with some stupid cellphone, or drunk. Hell a magnitude more people die from smoking and obesity (after eating a lifetime of food they know is utter shit). None of that makes the news because it is routine but it doesn't make those events any less deadly.

10. I'm quite glad and heartened--for him and for us--that he can see past his grief to
the possible implications of this event--more repression. That is a good sign that he can and will recover--i.e., he is not totally wrapped up in himself and his grief, which would certainly be understandable--but actually it's good to see a glimmer of concern about everybody else, about our society. And he's right on, as to a genuine concern about this horror--that the result will be MORE repression, more restriction, more personal invasiveness, and less access to our government.

This is a very wise observation--from someone who, right now, would be justified in despairing of the rest of us and our society and our broken democracy. I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child to the mayhem and murder that the rightwing has been fostering. The temptation to rage and revenge and return hatred must be very great--yet he speaks of all of us, about the fear and consequent repression that we are already experiencing, with this event possibly about to be used for more of the same. He is worried about all of us.

I thank him for it. There is nothing I can do to ease his broken heart. But I can certainly lend my voice to the cause of openness, freedom, our human and civil rights and not letting the fear-mongers gain more ground.

14. I would decline to go on TV, myself
Can't imagine gutting up for that kind of thing, but that's just me. Especially on Fox.
