As many in Congress are advocating for regressive cuts in the Social Security program, the Economic Policy Institute is releasing a paper titled “A Young Person’s Guide To Social Security.” The paper notes that Social Security provides the majority of income for three-fifths of Americans 65 and older, and illustrates this across different income quintiles with the following graphs:

1. IMO over the coming years that is going to increase. In earlier days
people had retirement with companies, more savings, etc. Today, many people can barely survive let alone save money for retirement, also costs seem to just go up and up.

I don't know how much youth of today is paying attention to all of this, but they are really being set up for a raw deal down the road.

Part of having a civilization is cooperation to help support each other IMO. Without that, one just has herds of people wandering around.

8. Yep, anymore in the US anything that works we destroy. It's like this
country has a self-fulfilling doomsday wish for failure.

2. And it's all money that goes right back into the economy through purchases, unlike
tax breaks for the rich. That money just gets hoarded, leaving the economy.

6. Yep, wealthy tax breaks often go into global investments with Nano-Trading. These people don't
give a F about creating jobs. Who is going to create jobs in the US when they can invest. One of the real problems in this country is we are trying to use early 20th century solutions for 21st century problems. All of this SS money goes right into the economy, it's a win-win solution all the way around.

It will be particularly vital for future generations too (seeing as how they can't find jobs and earning potential will be forever stifled)

10. About 24 million Americans
rely on SS for the majority of their income. So much for "sharing the sacrifice" when it comes to the debt.
