minivan driver discovers accident victim (uninjured) in back seat when he gets home
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 11:27 AM by Liberal_in_LA
seems like the minivan driver left the scene of an accident even though not at fault. How could he not realize he'd been hit?

Calif. motorcyclist lands in van back seat, unhurt

A California motorcyclist rear-ended a minivan and was hurled through a window into the back seat but was not injured.

Investigators say the minivan driver made a turn after Thursday's collision and drove to his Mojave Desert home a half-block away before discovering he had a new passenger.

Callers reported the crash at 3:46 p.m., saying the motorcycle crashed and slid under the minivan on a Victorville street and the biker couldn't be found.

-------------------------

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt says the minivan driver had already committed to the turn and drove a short distance to his home. He then discovered the motorcyclist in the back seat.

1. Stupid ass newspaper/reporter. Very little details.
I want to know whether there was damage as a result of the passenger entering the vehicle. Which window. Was there any damage to the vehicle? Whether the passenger was conscious and if so why didn't he say something right away. Or if he was unconscious.

2. more info from another article. Motorcyclist was "stunned"
The incident occurred when the motorcyclist failed to stop in time as the minivan slowed to make a turn, the newspaper reported. The motorcycle then crashed into the van, with the rider hurling through the minivan’s rear window and the motorcycle itself skidding beneath the larger vehicle.

The minivan driver then turned into his driveway, less than half a block away, and was preparing to return to the scene when he realized the stunned motorcyclist was in his backseat, the paper reported.

No charges were filed in the case and neither man required medical attention, Hunt told the Daily Press.

"The helmet sustained most of the impact," Hunt told the paper.

The motorcyclist only asked for ice for one of his hands, the paper said.

The rear window of the minivan and the motorcycle both reportedly sustained severe damage.

5. I want to know the color of the vehicle...
...and whether the cyclist wore a beard.

And why can't they report everyone's blood type???

8. And most important -- the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet ...
that "sustained most of the damage."

A body lands in your back seat and you notice nothing?

6. Your editorializing suggests you did not read the full short article you linked to
Here are the remaining two paragraphs:

Investigators say the minivan slowed or stopped to make a turn and the motorcyclist slammed into the vehicle.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt says the minivan driver had already committed to the turn and drove a short distance to his home. He then discovered the motorcyclist in the back seat.

There is no hint here that the driver was not aware there was an accident. He was already in the intersection, he continued and parked in his driveway less than half a block away.

I think you are allowed to move out of the way after an accident.

9. Weird
I can see an episode of some crime series being made out of this, with a little dramatic embellishment.
