Interesting timing for the DADT repeal... |
|
Not to lessen the importance of the decision, but coinciding with what's likely to be a divisive and unpopular result to the debt debacle, it kinda smells like red meat. Too cynical? Maybe, but can you blame me?

It should not have taken so long. Frankly with everything else, this piece of meat does little to balance out the rest of the right wing crap he's been doing.

16. But What do the "dark motives" matter? Can't you be happy about a positive outcome? |
|
If I were to acknowledge your " cynicism" about motive, why is the certification "bad."

You are correct, no one is complaining about the outcome. They only say that to muddy the issue.

4. The timing has to do with the changing of the guard at the DOD. |
|
The certification is based on that timing, not on anything else. The time is now, because it can be now. This is separate from all the other bullshit that's going on.

I think this is the third time he has done this -- throw out a bone on the liberal LGBT issue just when he is about to screw us over on another important liberal issue. Please note, I support 100% the progress on LGBT rights, but I despise how it is being used by O as an appeasement tool.

Quick, let the gays serve - we need more bodies.
It's ok if they die because it's not like they can get married anyway. :/

that GLBT have been serving for years. Are you not able to put your cynicism away for ANYTHING the president does? Oh, and it depends on the state in which they live if they can get married or not. That is not something over which the president has the ability to command.

fig leaf from Obama to accompany his assault on SS/Medicare for a year or more. He's used gay rights issues this way before.
I'd say it's why this particular issue has been delayed so long.

28. LGBT people have been struggling for this repeal for decades. His political "use" of us will not go |
|
unnoticed. The DADT repeal is an insanely popular policy, even among Republicans. What? Using LGBT bodies as IED fodder when we already have a backdoor draft? DADT is broadly unpopular for many reasons. We're happy, of course, but we know that this is a cynical move to give us the easiest and smallest bone just to shut us up and keep us voting. Here's the problem though: we also give a shit about Medicaid, Social Security, and job security like everyone else.
We earned this repeal because we pushed him into a corner politically, not because Obama is so magnanimous and fantastic.

Are you sure?! I have been told by "allies" were are one-issue voters, certainly they know more about the GLBT community than a homo like me! I am ever so confused! Is it a one-trick pony? Or a trick with a pony? Or a tricky pony? Hopefully some nice non-gay person will come along and set me "straight."
Do I really need it? Yeah, what the hell, :sarcasm:
