Report: Murdoch’s hackers also targeted Julian Assange’s former attorney

An attorney who represented embattled WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was targeted by hackers working for the now-shuttered News Corporation tabloid News of the World, he told reporters with Britain's Channel 4 News.

A number for Mark Stephens, Assange's prior lawyer, reportedly appears in a notebook kept by Murdoch phone hacker Glenn Mulcaire, who served a prison sentence over the case.

Phone numbers in Mulcaire's notes are being called by Scotland Yard. Stephens said the agency confirmed to him that his number was on the list of about 4,000.

"There is nothing I can do about it but the important thing is to ascertain which client so I can advise them," he reportedly said. "My concern is for them, not myself."
