If Obama really wants to "win" Independents, He Wouldn't Consider Cutting the "Big Three"
Poll after poll shows 80% plus Americans across the board, every party, race, creed, religion, don't want cuts. None. No trims or slashes. It's going to be hard to win an election where you royally piss off 70 to 80% of the voters.

This Ed Schultz Clips pretty much says it all:

1. its easy because the tea party and half the people receiving
social security and Medicare claim they are not the beneficiary of a government social program.

2. No I don't think so. They understand very crystal clear they haven't received a COLA in 2 years
They may not think of them as government social programs in a broad base, but if you say them by their names, they know they're receiving benefits.

8. If that were really true there would be riots in the streets now
Look what they did to Rostenkowski and the catastrophic health care act. It charged something like 25 bucks a month for catastrophic care and he went back to his district and they rocked his care and an old lady heat his windshield with her umbrella.

People at IBM lost their pension and retiree health care in 1999. They squawked and some got back a pensions worth 1/3 what it would have been and they totally lost retiree paid health care. You would not believe the people retiring today and being stunned to find they have no retiree health.

13. And "experts" on all the talk money shows tell
TV watchers that it will be "normal" under the
"New Economy" for the system to crash out every fifteen years or even sooner than that!

Why shouldn't the Big Wigs crash out the systems? They know that the Geithner/Bernanke types will divert any government funds they can find to future Bailouts. (And if there aren't any to be found, Bernanke can "Digitize" money into being)

Yet people on DU, including a guy the other day talking about his life on unemployment, and not eating properly due to lack of money, they are still socking away funds into 401 K plans.

3. It's obvious to me then that the voters don't count anymore in elections
Seems as though Obama is favoring one class of folks - the rich and powerful in these talks. It clearly indicates (to me at least) that elections are no longer decided by voters.

7. We have no democracy in this country anymore. It is ruled by a royal elite
hidden from view that does not include Obama.

4. they won't blame Obama
they'll blame Congress. But it won't be clear anymore which side in Congress to blame, unfortunately. Obama is saving the GOP from any damage done from the Ryan plan.

9. Don't bank on that assumption. Obama just joins the rest in the all-consuming hatred of DC
I think that's what will come out of this. A terrible grudging acknowledgment that American government has failed, across the board.

5. If this continues he well might not win in 2012, for similar reasons as to
how the house was lost in 2010. Some will not vote or vote for the other brand for revenge, and then we'll really be in a F'en mess.

He seems IMO incapable of exploiting the will of 70 to 80% of the voters to his advantage. We'll see what happens, but sometimes I don't think he's as clever as many on DU think.

6. I keep wondering, where are these dumb a** teabaggers
who kept showing up at town halls, voicing displeasure at the health care law, because they didn't want ANYONE TOUCHING THEIR MEDICARE. Where are those folks now? Are they calling their reps?? Or was all that outrage as manufactured as the signs and talking points given to them??
