I wish we could have a national vote |
|
on the important things. Like taxing the wealthy, saving SS and Medicare, feeding the starving instead of killing and war, saving the planet... Yeah. I wish.

1. You're in luck! In the DU alternate universe you may wish for anything you like |
|
because reality does not apply there. So wish away. At least you are wishing big and noble.

2. True, people CAN wish for things. |
|
Some of them are unrealistic, I agree. Some of them are goals that could take years to achieve, absolutely. But just because somebody feels passionate about something or says something that may sound crazy out of frustration doesn't always mean they actually believe such things are attainable or that they're out of touch with reality. It's just a matter of opinion and how the person feels about the subject for the most part. No one person can change something on their own. Just because somebody has a different opinion about it than you doesn't mean they live in a fantasy world, it just means they see it differently than you do or feel more strongly about it. You may think something's a waste of time, whereas another may see it as a noble cause. Some people may say they wish for something that's totally impossible out of frustration or just as a matter of hyperbolic venting, that doesn't mean they actually believe it. That's just my two cents.

6. Oddly enough, the "DU alternate universe"... |
|
...is in agreement with the majority of the U.S. population on these issues: taxing the wealthy, saving SS and Medicare, feeding the starving instead of killing and war.
Don't know what reality you are living in though.

5. Do they? If this debt ceiling deal passes with major benefit cuts, they did not vote for us |

8. If we all got to weigh in on |
|
tax cuts for the wealthy today, the outcome would not be the same as what our reps would vote "for us" today.

A quick look at the the most recognized/reputable polling firms (debatable topic) demonstrates a majority of americans support the following: 1. Deportation of all illegals, and all their children 2. Repeal of the health care reform act 3. Keeping marijuana illegal 4. Death Penalty for murderers

Though, I think Americans have the potential to be more progressive than we are led to believe. The youth vote is changing things significantly. There will be a lot of new voters in 2012. I have two that will be voting for the first.

will never again be rallied like it was in 2008. Everything they believed was going to happen, did not happen. They are discouraged, and will not "give a shit" this go around.

10. not to mention when a majority of voters (white men) would never have allowed |
|
women nor black men the right to vote.
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner (I forget who said this)

Probably the same person who said: "Every four years we have to choose who will screw us the least"

11. Hell, I'd settle for just being allowed to see our "public servants" at work. |
|
This whole negotiation gig by the bosses is behind closed doors rather than allow the ordinary folks, the supposed beneficiaries of their efforts, see what their doing.
