Man charged after gas-soaked wife set ablaze

Investigators say a woman jumped from a pickup truck on a Southern California freeway after the driver, her husband, splashed her with gasoline and set her ablaze.

California Highway Patrol Officer Sylvia Vargas says the 23-year-old woman is hospitalized at Riverside County Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover.

Riverside County district attorney's spokesman John Hall said Friday that 39-year-old Constantino Monterrosas Gamez is charged with attempted murder and other felonies. He's in jail with bail set at $1 million pending arraignment July 28.

The CHP says Gamez was driving a pickup on Interstate 15 in Corona last week when the couple began arguing. Investigators say Gamez doused her in gas while driving and used a lighter set her on fire.
