Poll question: Let's Talk About What We Would Do ......... #1 |
|
It seems to me that the general consensus on DU is that Social Security is in danger of being cut. I personally do not know. Could it stand some tweaking?? If it truly in danger of being financially unsound in 25 years should we start now to firm it up?? And if that is the case what should be done??

1. I voted eliminate the cap |
|
But I would favor coupling the dramatically increased revenue with a lowered retirement age.

The reason I put the poll out there was to see where people really stood on this issue. I am not trying to argue with you on it. Everything I have read is that SS will be down to 75% of benefits by 2037.

4. It is difficult to make these long term projections, if the economy grows ... |

at a slightly higher rate then there is no need to do anything, sure would help if we focused on jobs. Some recent discussion on DU here. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=931203&mesg_id=931203:hi:

5. High unemployment will have disastrous effects on SS. |
|
the only tweaking that will help is JOBS. Any company that uses tax havens to move offshore should be hit between the eyes with a damn tax brick.
