... GOP ass because in the end the republicans would not comprise on anything so President Obama might get
a raise in the debt ceiling through 2013 and the big 3 might not be touched very much if it all. Obama offered
the moon, the stars, and the sun but the Repugs wanted a pony too.

3. He did. He pretty much gave away the store and they still rejected it.
That pretty much set the stage for a Fourteenth Amendment solution since it's now been proven they don't negotiate, at all.

We're about to live in interesting times unless someone is able to talk some sense into the Weeping Cheeto.

4. President Obama looks like a political winner ONLY in comparison to the current Republican..
...Party leadership. President Obama, however, deserves few accolades. With $650 Bln of our Social Security proudly and unreservedly put on the bargaining table, President Obama has elevated himself from an embarassment to the Democratic Party to a threat to the Democratic Party's previously-perennial ability to court seniors or those affected by social programs.

He worries about failure of confidence in the "full faith and credit" of the US govt's treasury instruments but he is not apparently so concerned about the confidence in the "full faith in credit" of the Democratic Party when it comes to protecting social programs.

17. Obama took the fight to the Republican's playing field. It puts him in a position of strenght
when the actual shit starts flying.

7. People need to remember that President Obama gave up ...
..... millions to help the poor in the Chicago / Gary Indiana area after law school.

I might be wrong but Obama let the GOP paint themselves into a corner .... not that the
media will ever tell that story.

9. I work for the federal government: HUD. He was proposed MORE money
for the homelessness program and for Section 8. Congress *CUT* those funds, not Obama!

It's simple Civics 101: Congress pulls the pursestrings. The president doesn't have the constitutional authority.

I'm still baffled as to why most don't get this. It's quite simple.

That's what you get when you put the middle-schoolers in charge.

20. Jeez! D v R. O v the R's. Is that all that matters to you? What
about the effects of all of this theater on the lives of the American people? Is politics just a GAME to you? A wrestling match? Cheer for your quarterback and your team?

It's life and death. Decent living or grinding poverty. Justice or aristocracy. A question of who should wield power.

The Democratic Party I grew up in used to know that. You worry me.

21. I'll bet he's counting on some help from the uber rich...
but not in the way you expect.

I would think that the congress folk that are holding things up will be getting some personal calls from some dangerously rich people pretty soon.

Obama may be able to ask for anything and the GOP will have go give it to him or find themselves in some pretty big personal trouble for the rest of their lives.

But seriously, I'm seeing it the same as you. Not to say it isn't nerve wracking and maddening... it certainly is.
