Is Grover Norquist Like The Don Of The Republican Mafia?
You kiss his ring, pledge fealty and get whacked if you cross him?

3. Back when he was helping Jack Abramoff rip off Indians.
As I pointed out elsewhere, Abramoff spent an awful lot of time writing things down for the FBI before he went to prison--like close to two years. Some of those things may have been crimes. Some of those crimes may not have a five-year statute of limitations, like lying to Congress does. Some of them may have no statute of limitations.

If Grover's Americans for Tax Reform was somehow involved in something more than acting as a pipeline for fleecing Abramoff's clients, then poor Grover could be facing prosecution at any moment, unless....

I suspect that may have something to do with Norquist's stunning change in posture today.

2. I think of him as a fictitious character.
He's like Popeye. He's the guy drowning the government in the bathtub.

11. Scared Shitless...
The ultimate rushpublican boogie man is the IRS. They are all evil and must be derided and/or destroyed. It all goes back to Poppy bush and his "read my lips" fiasco where he was forced to raise taxes...the fallout of the "Raygun revolution" of free spending. Norquist grabbed bush's loss in '92 and used that to extort congresscritters with his omerta...err pledge. It's been a constant theme on hate radio as Grover's got the ear of Rushbo and every other flying air monkey who can pillage a lowly congresscritter with their watts and ridicule. While I'll say many of the rushpublicans are "true believers" in never raising taxes a vast number of them do so in fear of being beat up on the AM radio.

Grover's made a nice living on squeezing his contacts and using them to his advantage. TPM ran some vintage Grover...his role in the Abramoff scandal which the corporate media seems to have selectively avoided. It reads like a mafia shakedown and no one has ever questioned Grover about his role in fleecing Indian tribes and bribing congresscritters.

12. No, not at all.
You don't see the Cosa Nostra bombing casinos now do you? Only the GOP is stupid enough to destroy the very mechanism (the economy) that gives them what they most desire (money).
