Do we need a World War III?

It's clear to me we haven't been able to devise an economic system to feed, clothe or shelter everyone adequately. We haven't been able to fairly govern ourselves, prevent wars or treat each other humanely. Would reducing our numbers help us to survive? Tough love to be sure, but could forcing two or three billion people off the planet be an act of kindness? Do we need a World War III to solve our problems?

Even suggesting another large scale war is insane. We are so overpopulated and have such powerful weapons that the result could very well lead to another 1000 year dark age at best, or extinction at worst!
