So cutting Entitlements AND Raising Taxes, was a bridge too far
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 10:05 PM by peace4ever
I really don't understand who thinks that is gonna be a winning strategy

And apparently the TPTB have come to that realization as well.

so, now they want cuts, and increased revenue from the rich possibly down the road.

im thinking the 'compromise' will be, raising taxes on the middle-class, by way of cuts to existing tax breaks e.g. housing, child credits, etc.

and the entitlement cuts, of course.

1.  I have to disagree -- just don't
see that happening.

however, since this is all done behind closed doors, who really knows, accept TPTB?

only to be unveiled in the final hour, on the weekend.

7. In this instance especially, we've been hearing all sorts of
things, and at this point I don't even think TPTB know what will finally come down the pike. Crazy, isn't it?

3. SS is a retirement plan, Medicare is a Hlth Ins Plan, Not entitlements.
It is really difficult to understand how SS has become the focal point of a deficit reduction plan, when SS does not contribute 1 dime to the deficit. It is paid for by generations of workers. Medicare is a health plan. Seniors pay premiums out of their SS checks and purchase GAP plans.
Let the Bush tax cuts expire and the deficit will go away in 10 years.

6. true, they are that, too.
but, no matter what they are called, they are gunning for them, since they already got those funds spent on tax cuts for the rich, empire, and wars.

4. Raising taxes on the middle class is not going to happen
Seems to me the compromise will be a version of the mcconell plan, or a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling.
