1. The writing is on the wall, these people just want to be seen as having an effect

Same as Fmr. Pres. Clinton.

Nothing can pass The House due to the Republican party being fundamentally broken. There will be no option other than for Pres. Obama to do this on his own and fight it out later.

I believe the die is cast, there will be no choice other than for the 14th amendment to be invoked.

The plan may be to try and impeach him during his reelection campaign. I honestly can't comprehend what the (R)s are thinking, but it may be that.

3. I've been saying this all along Johnny
that their gameplan is to force Obama to invoke the 14th amendment so they can impeach him in the House. Every time I bring this up some guy from Texas comes into my thread to go on the attack-all I can say is just watch

5. It took me longer but I see it now. All other avenues are now closed

It is already to late to get anything done through Congress. Everything now is posturing for the aftermath.

2. I understand "It's a Big Fkn Deal" Constitutionally
for a president to take that action and as I heard the other day, in order to meet the constitutional requirements of National Threat-we have to actually Default First! By then it's a "damage done". Interest will skyrocket for Everybody--Credit Cards, Loans etc. Essentially it will trigger an ungodly "tax".
The wealthy however who spend so much money and time trying to avoid a pittance of an increase in tax contributions will go down along with the rest of us. This part is Not "class selective".

4. we don't need to default first
http://www.usconstitution.net/xconst_Am14.html

^snip^

The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

This states fairly clearly that there can not even be any question that we might default.

9. Obama said yesterday he can't raise the debt ceiling on his own:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4931348

"There's a provision in our Constitution that speaks to making sure that the United States meets its obligations, and there have been some suggestions that a president could use that language to basically ignore this debt ceiling rule, which is a statutory rule; it's not a constitutional rule," Obama said.

He said, "I have talked to my lawyers ... They're not persuaded that that is a winning argument."

If Obama had any intention of using the 14th Amendment as his ace in the hole if push comes to shove, why would he tip his hand in advance?

11. Not only raise the debt ceiling, but cut spending and raise taxes on his own.
If republicans in Congress are going to act like irresponsible children, they must be cut out of decision-making until they come to their senses.
