It's About Time: NYT Puts Blame "Squarely Where It Belongs: On Republicans"

EDITORIAL
The Party That Can’t Say Yes
Published: July 22, 2011

For days, the White House has infuriated its Democratic allies in Congress by offering House Republicans more and more in exchange for a deal to raise the debt ceiling and prevent default. But it was never enough, and, on Friday evening, it became clear that it may never be enough. Speaker John Boehner again walked away from the “grand bargain” he had been negotiating with President Obama, leaving the country teetering on the brink of another economic collapse.

At the White House podium a few minutes later, the president radiated a righteous fury he rarely displays in public, finally placing the blame for this wholly unnecessary crisis squarely where it belongs: on Republicans who will do anything to upend his presidency and dismantle every social program they can find.

at it again! I'm sure every AM radio station and Fox and the WSJ and Ann Coulter will be on the case to defend the poor, misunderstood and persecuted Republicans.

7. Good on the NYT, of course. However, I can't help but notice that the DC elite hold the NYT in less
regard than in times past. Think back on those halcyon days when Tim Russert gazed dewy-eyed at Dick Cheney quoting the NYT to bolster the case for the Iraq invasion -- an article that he, himself had a hand at planting via the lovely and talented Judith Miller.

No, the DC elite are not so much minded to heed any exhortations from the NYT these days, not when they have the WSJ (not to mention, the entire Rubert Murdoch media empire) to reflect their greatness back to them. And they have their beloved WAPO - of venerable, decades-long faithful service to the official, acceptable lines of DC narrative. As well as their decades-long infiltration by the National Security State and equally faithful service as a conduit for their psyops against the People.

I'm glad the NYT wrote this, and let us definitely spread it around -- precisely because we need to be aware that it is not enough for the NYT to have written this piece. DC can easily ignore it altogether unless a genuine push from the ground echoes this editorial's sentiments.
