15. It looks like the apron that Masons wear...
Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around six million, including approximately 150,000 in Scotland and Ireland, over a quarter of a million under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England<1> and just under two million in the United States.<2>

The fraternity is administratively organised into independent Grand Lodges or sometimes Orients, each of which governs its own jurisdiction, which consists of subordinate (or constituent) Lodges. The various Grand Lodges recognise each other, or not, based upon adherence to landmarks (a Grand Lodge will usually deem other Grand Lodges who share common landmarks to be regular, and those that do not to be "irregular" or "clandestine").

23. I did hear
on one of the news reports yesterday, from Norway, that he was, indeed, a Freemason. My grandfather was a Mason, and a Shriner (an "upper" echelon of Freemasons) and I am really hoping this guy doesn't start claiming that he did these horrendous things in the name of freemasonry, and sully the memory of my granddad!

29. I've never had a problem with the Freemasons
and the Shriners always cheer me up in the parades, especially their hats. :)

There are good members and bad members, same as any other group. Everyone forgets about the good members who raise funds for children's hospitals and work children's ID fairs and they always remember the bad members.

Masonic formal wear

The apron comes from Medieval Masons leather aprons

27. Fits...
I guess he was trying to find a sense of order, structure, connections, meaning. Which the Masons provide in large amounts if you buy it.

We do have a problem with young people not having a sense of belonging to something larger than themselves, but they usually turn to drugs or some other more self-destructive behavior before they snap enough to kill.

24. It is kinda cultish
...so the conspiracy thoughts are not unfounded. But I don't think Freemasons have anything to do with this guy's actions.

George Washington was a Mason and the city of Washington DC was based on symbols and patterns associated with Freemasonry.
