Will Mitch McConnell walk out on the talks today? |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 10:57 AM by kentuck
Three strikes and you're out. Since Cantor and Boehner have already walked out on these talks, that leaves McConnell as the only Republican leader left that hasn't walked out of a meeting.
Of course, all along we knew there was no agreement until everything was agreed to.
Democrats, and especially the President, are not thrilled with the McConnell plan of splitting the debt limit vote into three separate votes, the last vote to be taken just before the next election. The Repubs see that as a political advantage to themselves. Of course, the President sees it as the exact opposite.
The soap opera continues...

1. No, and neither will Reed or Obama... |

Their masters are getting nervous and as such, they will be calling the shots until a deal is reached. Accordingly, they will demand that all of them remain seated.

the whole idea that there needs to be a deal or a compromise is finely crafted fiction.....

6. It would help to know why Obama doesn't want three separate votes. |
|
He's willing to compromise on SS, but not on a band-aid solution?
The election has something to do with it, I suppose (politics). But what will happen to his reelection chances if he pushes through a comprehensive plan with SS cuts in it?
The risk/reward thing doesn't make sense. If he takes the McConnell plan, we get the debt ceiling raised, budget talks will get less draconian without the debt ceiling attached to it, and SS is back off the table for now. What could possibly happen in a third debt ceiling debate that could hurt his candidacy any worse than what's going on now?

I don't why the President would be so against separating the vote into 3 separate votes unless he sees the same thing happening with each vote? But would that hurt or help him politically? Reportedly, he wants a debt ceiling vote that goes to 2013, beyond the next election.

8. Nope. They'll come out triumphant with the deal that was decided when the |
|
legislation was crafted some time ago and pretend they pulled out a victory at the very last minute.
