Weird dream that bothered me...conversation w/Obama
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 10:57 AM by CoffeeCat
I know this is a probably a bit goofy to post a dream on DU, but it really
bothered me after I woke up. Ever have one of those?

I had a conversation with Obama and here is how it went:

Me: What is going on? I didn't vote for this. We didn't vote for this!
This is crazy. What are you doing?
Obama: I know some of you liberals are unhappy with me, but...
Me: This is not a *liberal* issue. Cutting Social Security is an affront
to every American citizen. It's the neocons and the corporations, isn't it?
They want this and they control everything...right? Please admit it.
Obama: Yes, it's true.
Me: Is there any way to stop it?
Obama: No
Me: <stunned silence because he admitted it>
Obama: And the worst part is...they're planning on rounding up people and
detention camps.
Me: Who will they detain? Will it be because of ideology?
Obama: No. They'll be rounding up the poor. Please do everything you can to stay
employed.

End of dream.

I am really bothered by this dream. It has stayed with me all morning. Again, I know
that sounds goofy to be upset by a dream. I've never ONCE considered that it would come
to detention camps and I've never had the thought in my head that the government would
round up the poor. I guess I'm also wondering from a "What does this dream mean" standpoint.
Why would I get answers that I've never consciously considered.

I guess it bothers me because it seems plausible--given everything that's happening.

1. It may well represent sub-conscious fears?..but
I have no clue. I'm not qualified to diagnose :)

2. Scurry!
But why in the world would they round up the poor
when they can just start a war and begin taxing the crap
out of us anyways? What purpose does the ol' Rounding Up meme have?

Anything is possible.
Not everything is probable.

Your dream does not seem plausible to me, at all.

3. It's just a dream. Dreams can fuck with us as much as inspire us.
Having said that, I think your dream represents legitimate concerns you have about the situation. You should explore those while waking to see if the concerns which spawned the dream narrative hold up. For instance, I realize you're just recounting a dream, but ya lost me when Obama spoke about rounding up the poor.

But, I mean, fuck, the whole thing about debtor's prisons and people having their house raided by SWAT because someone owes a studen load...those are real elements, concerns, which look to have been woven in there.

How do I say this? I don't think President Obama would necessarily do things to harm me directly, but my disappointing experience is that on some issues, Obama will stand aside while corporate entities stalk through this country like the 4 horsemen.

That really concerns me.

My own House Representative, yesterday, called Obama out and said that he manufactured this crisis by extending the Bush tax cuts and is now trying to cut Social Security (and services in general) in order to protect them (the cuts). This is on the House floor, yesterday. I've voted for DeFazio for years and years. I know him better than Obama. I trust him a magnitude more than the President.

DeFazio: Obama extends Bush tax cuts to create a crisis then cuts spending to protect tax cuts!

4. It is a dream
however, I know that the extreme right does wish to bring back workhouses, poorhouses and orphanages.

5. I read once that when you dream,
all the characters are different aspects of yourself. My take on this is that this 'rounding up the poor' is related to a big fear on your part. Maybe it's time to confront this fear head on and either let it go or take whatever action you feel you need to to address the root problem here... for YOU not the outside world as this just isn't going to happen... or I don't think so at this time.

Is there one thing or two that you have put off regarding a personal employment issues? I would look there first.

6. Such dreams may be more common than you think.
I'm struck with the similarity of mine about a year ago. With all due respect to the President, I was right in his face, earnestly asking him questions about ending the wars. With each question he threw back his head and laughed. I broke into wailing tears and the "dream" abruptly ended. It was very unsettling and still haunts me.

Detention camps? I don't think so. The RW would find a much more cost-effective solution.

8. Obviously it's a fear that's been lurking
even if you haven't given it any conscious thought.

Thinking things like that isn't so strange. People do get rounded up and killed by their governments. Look at Ghana's Western Regional Minister arresting all the gays.
