Norway massacre suspect puzzles police According to Fox he's Al-Qaeda
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 12:05 PM by democracy1st
STOCKHOLM (AP) — The 32-year-old suspected of gunning down scores of young people at a summer camp and setting off a bomb in downtown Oslo that killed at least seven is a mystery to investigators: a right-winger with anti-Muslim views but no known links to hardcore extremists.

"He just came out of nowhere," a police official told The Associated Press.

Seven people were killed in the bombing at the prime minister's office and at least 85 were slain in the shooting spree on the island, police said Saturday. The warned the death toll could rise further as many people remained missing.

Fox Juxtaposes Norwegian Terrorist Attack, NYC Islamic Center

Friday night on The O'Reilly Factor, guest host Laura Ingraham did a brief report on the terrorist attacks that killed dozens of people in Norway. She began by saying, "In the 'Back of the Book' segment tonight, two deadly terror attacks in Norway, in what appears to be the work, once again, of Muslim extremists." She went on to describe the attacks, which involved a bombing in Oslo and a mass shooting.

Ingraham then immediately transitioned into a segment on Park51, the planned Islamic community center near the World Trade Center, by saying, "In the meantime, in New York City, the Muslims who want to build the mosque at Ground Zero scored a huge legal victory. A Manhattan judge dismissed a lawsuit by former New York City firefighter Timothy Brown, who was trying to stop construction of the mosque. Bill O'Reilly spoke with a lawyer for the Muslim developers yesterday."

1. Nobody just "comes out of nowhere."
The hate was probably burning up inside him for many years. He also probably had many forms of mental illness.

My question is, however, how the heck did he kill so many people? 85!? That's an absolute massacre.

2. "According to Fox he's Al-Qaeda"
Got a link for that? I'm stuck watching Fox and they're reporting it the same as everyone else.

6. Freepers are twisting themselves into knots today trying to get the "fundy"
label off that dude.

Somehow he MUST be a Nazi or a SOCIALIST or an atheist ("all Nazi's were atheists!!") - anything but a fundie Christian right wing nut like them.

7. He had an illegal full auto weapon that is banned, Norway has all the gun control laws that
anti gun groups love.

This is the worse mass shooting I ever heard of, in a "no gun zone", where gun control is strong and with a gun that is banned.

How would magazine capacity limits, one gun per month, wait periods, registration systems for law abiding citizens have affected this guys ability to get an illegal gun?
The best chance they had to avoid this was to allow law abiding citizens to carry guns with a permit.

9. Gun violence in Norway is generally very low
This type of thing is extremely rare in Norway, to use a single event to suggest that more guns are needed is an absurd ideological response that ignores Norway's history as a very peaceful nation.

12. Can you find a mass shooting in the US that is even half as large as 80+?
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 06:20 PM by lawodevolution
This is the worse mass shooting I ever heard of.

Norway has 5 million people, Texas has 25 million. All the mass shootings in Texas, 23 at lubys, 16 at the tower at UT and 15 at fort hood add up to 54 for a state with little gun control and 5 times larger population.

Norways base murder rate would be the same without the gun control laws

13. No this is an incredibly tragic event, but you can not show that it happened because of gun control
You are using this event to baselessly claim that looser gun control laws would have prevented this, but you have absolutely no basis for that argument it is strictly ideology. In fact Norway already has one of Europe's highest rates of gun ownership, but that did not prevent this tragedy.

10. Right-wing fundamentalism is a mental disease.
It needs to be treated as such.

Quarantine and deprogram.

15. KGO(ABC) news originally said the attacks were 'linked' to al-Qaeda, too.
I saw the broadcast. What isn't linked to al-Qaeda these days? Every time something blows up, it's linked to al-Qaeda. Ted Kaczynski is probably linked to al-Qaeda.
