Inexplicable Edits on Sarah Palin's Facebook Page
Sarah Palin has a reputation for being an agressive editor of comments on her Facebook page - a reputation that has always seemed likely accurate to me, given the tedious consistency with which all comments on the page are along the lines of "I love you SARAH!"

But in the wake of the terrible events in Arizona, with many commentators pointing out the obvious fact that Gabrielle Giffords had been targetted by Palin in the November election on a map that used a chilling gun site graphic, I thought it would be worth watching her page for a little while to see if her team were indeed deleting negative comments routinely. But I had no idea how incredibly, almost comically, efficient her people would turn out to be in deleting comments that were even slightly critical of the former Governor. And then I came across... well, what I guess you'd have to politely call an appalling example of editorial misjudgement at best.

Here's what I found, from a brief sample achieved by the simple expedient of hitting the refresh button repeatedly over a short period of time:

6. They are playing HEAVY damage control on her FB page.

"Negative" comments are deleted in a matter of minutes at most and the user immediately blocked from page. They are working round the clock on edits. But when you ran a campaign that put crosshairs over 20 Democrats and one of them just got a bullet through her fucking brain, I can see why you might.

Asking her if she was happy now. It's gone today. Now there are threads asking you to pray for Ste. Sarah, however, even in those you can see a lot of deletions.

and read the whole thing. obviously someone has a full time job monitoring her facebook page. and a comment saying that the 9-year-old girl would have probably grown up to be a liberal anyway? left there.

10. if i could go back in time and kill hitler, i'd be killing myself and my son at the same time

there's not a chance in the world that life would have played out to bring about my birth were it not for hitler.
my parents would never have met, i would never have been born, and so my son would never have been born.

that doesn't make anything hitler did ok, but it just goes to show you that while the whole "would you kill hitler as a kid" question is great for late-night sophomoric bull sessions, it's useless or worse in terms of applying it to any actual situation.

besides, hollywood's typical approach, anyway, is to say that if you COULD go back and kill hitler, another monster would just have come along in his stead, probably even worse. heck, for all we know hitler prevented stalin from taking over all of europe.

anyway, my own resolution to the question was that no, i wouldn't kill him as a kid; instead i'd do something really NICE for him and point out that i'm jewish, perhaps even make him promise to always remember the kindness of strangers and jews.

of course, if that worked and prevented the holocaust, again, i wouldn't be here, and now, neither would my son....
ah, to be in college again and have time to stay up all night pondering such b.s.!
