200 Days Has Shown America Cannot Cut Its Way to Prosperity
http://www.dems.gov/blog/200-days-has-shown-america-cannot-cut-its-way-to-prosperity
Today marks the 200th day without a jobs agenda under the Republican-controlled House.

Americans overwhelming tell us that the economy and jobs remains priority number one, yet Republican leaders still refuse to listen. Instead of creating opportunities for middle class Americans to find work and protect their families, the GOP has focused on an ideological agenda to cut the programs that families rely on while protecting billions in tax giveaways to Big Oil and Wall Street – regardless of the cost.

The past 200 days has shown that America cannot simply cut its way to prosperity.

* Corporate profits are soaring, but millions of Americans are still out of work and many of those who are fortunate enough to have work have seen their wages stay the same.
* According to Mark Zandi, Moody’s chief economist, and the Council of Economic Advisers, the House GOP has voted to destroy nearly two million jobs.

Worse, the GOP agenda cuts long-term investments like educating our children, ensuring roads and bridges are ready to transport our products of the future, and researching new technologies that will ensure that industries of tomorrow grow here at home.

3. Those corporate profits are soaring because they are laying off
people. Labor is the most expensive part of business.
Cutting the labor force to produce efficiencies means
more money in company coffers=increased profits.
Have heard this at 3 times this week. Bloomberg, Fox
and Fox Business.

6. Just give 'em a chance. Once these old expensive jobs are all gone, they'll create new ones
We need workers (disposable, admittedly) to go clean up a bunch of atomic reactors and waste dumps.

We will continue to need disposable cleanup personnel as long as we continue expanding the nuclear industry.

Likewise the Gulf. If Americans hadn't had those damn jobs, homes, and families, we could have got a LOT more people go down and clean up the oil in exchange for gruel and clean water.

And the whole country's infrastructure needs rebuilding. As soon as private work gangs that kidnap and conscript drunks, like old sailing ships used to, are common and cheap enough, they'll start rebuilding infrastructure.

And then there's agricultural labor. As soon as they can get ag workers to work for land to temporarily squat on, drinkable water, and gleanings, you'll see THAT job market open up.

C'mon, have a little faith.
