TEATALITARIANS are selling out the elderly
With the talk of proposed cuts to medicare and social security, such as a $1000 cut when one reaches age 75, I would think this issue would resonate much more strongly than it has. With their totalitarian and uncompromising tax-cutting, entitlement-cutting agenda, the totalitarians of the Tea Party are hurting the very same seniors who make up much of the membership of the GOP. Yet, I don't think they're getting much organized push-back from seniors in this country, except perhaps for a TV advertisement or two from the AARP. This issue I think should be the great achilles heel of the Teatalitarians.

I unfortunately live in a Republican district and I telephoned the office of my Congressman yesterday morning. I very politely expressed the fact that I was on social security and very concerned about proposed reductions in benefits, explaining that I was active with seniors groups in the Congressman's district and that I was also expressing their concerns. I said there definitely would be a price to pay come the next election if seniors were sold out. I didn't challenge the Congressman on any other issue. This phone call obviously was very troubling to the person answering the telephone and he asked me to leave my number. About an hour later, I received a phone call from a member of the Congressman's staff in Washington. That person told me that the nation was in serious financial trouble and that social security wouldn't be around in the future unless cuts were made. I told him that any cuts in this economy would be an enormous financial hardship to seniors in the Congressman's district who vote Republican. He asked me what I proposed they do. I mentioned the $2 trillion in offshore capital held by U.S. corporations that are derived from shipping jobs overseas. The staffer told me the Congressman supported a plan to offer a tax amnesty to repatriate that money. I then mentioned the immigration amnesty instituted by Ronald Reagan and the fact that it only encouraged increased illegal immigration for those expecting more amnesties in the future. I suggested that any tax amnesty would only encourage U.S. companies to offshore more jobs and shift more capital overseas, hoping for more tax amnesties down the road. The staffer had no response whatsoever.

The Teatalitarians are selling out seniors and this point should be made as forcefully as possible. Apparently, it really gets the attention of GOP members in Congress.

1. Seniors thought AARP had their back. Apparently the RW is now in control of them, too.
