BREAKING - Boehner Resurrects Cantor's Demand For A Short Term Debt Limit Increase
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 07:56 PM by TomCADem
They are demanding $1 trillion in cuts, offering no taxes, and want a promise of $3 trillion in future cuts! This is obviously the worse of all worlds, since it allows House Republicans to bitch about the debt and spending for another six months without taking any action on jobs. This is the same deal that Cantor tried to get, because President Obama shut him up. So, in the last few days, the Republicans are moving backward in their negotiations with Reid and Pelosi?

Amazing!

http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/07/23/debt.talks/index.html

Asked if Republicans pushed back on the idea of an extension through the end of 2012, the source said: "I just think it was an honest discussion about what might happen to this country if we default. It was like, everyone knows where everyone is at this point."

But a House GOP aide told CNN that Republicans are "considering calling the president's bluff" on his refusal to sign a bill that doesn't raise the debt ceiling beyond the November 2012 election.

That's right. On the eve of default, Republicans want to try to call President Obama's bluff for shits and giggles, and they think that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will help give Republicans six more months to bitch about the debt, rather than focus on jobs.

Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 08:01 PM by in_cog_ni_to
Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.

edited to add Section 4 of the 14th Amendment. :)

3. Obama, Reid, and Pelosi have all been adamant about one thing: no short-term increase.

Funny how these announcements always come from these GOP jokers during prime drinking time.

It's pretty clear that Cantor is calling the shots now and that Boehner has lost all ability to control the house GOP.

6. Boehner is no position to DEMAND nor resurrect anything.
If this goes south, the Republicans get blamed. They overplayed their hand.

9. Well according to another post in GD quoting Pelosi, it sounds like these f-ers may get just what
they have been hoping for. A staggered deal with cuts up front and more cuts later with undefined revenues.
