harmless unless you just get in the way of its tail or something. the shark maybe wondering what that diver is, but it probably can't see him.

The other shots of this incident showed two of them lil' fellers.
Pretty cool.

11. Yahoo had the story yesterday or the day before with a few more pics but I can't find it now. |

The story doesn't come up on their search bar, which is weird. Found this on a google search of the encounter, but the Yahoo story had a shot that showed two of them, one of the photos was from above the water. http://animaltracks.today.com/_news/2011/07/22/7141073-gulp-diver-is-almost-swallowed-by-whale-shark?GT1=43001Edited to add; Story from The Daily Mail with a pic showing several of the animals; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2017167/Open-wide-The-diver-nearly-got-swallowed-whaleshark.html

Maybe there's a perfectly good explanation or underwater phenomenon, but why does the fish so dramatically change color at the base of it's pectoral fin?
My only explanations are that it's emerging from Narnia, or this is the work of PhotoShop.

19. That line is demarcating the edge of the gill cover - it's not a continuous |

surface from head to tail. Given how wide open the mouth is, I'd bet there's a pretty large gap and change in angle between the darker and lighter areas...

21. I may not have explained very well |
|
There's a clear line around the body of the animal, not head to tail, in which everything in the front half looks much darker than everything in the rear half, including the pectoral.

23. No, you were clear, but I really think that's the gill |
|
There's a bigger change in distance (from camera) and angle (to illumination) across that line than is readily apparent...

14. The diver is further away in the image and we're seeing an optical illusion. The shark |
|
wouldn't eat the guy anyway. They don't eat people as they are filter feeders and consume plankton.
