Sunday Talk Shows
Edited on Sat Jul-23-11 09:18 PM by cal04
NBC's "Meet the Press" — The White House is still holding out hope to "go big" on a debt deal, but will there be enough time? How close will negotiations get to the deadline? Will the U.S. default? Joining us, White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley

The debt debate drags on as the country’s debt limit looms. Is there time yet for a “grand bargain?” Republican member of the “Gang of Six” negotiations, Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn

The impasse on the debt ceiling debate raises questions about whether Washington can get anything done. Joining us: Former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel; Illinois tea party freshman Rep. Adam Kinzinger; Mayor of Newark, Cory Booker; Presidential Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin; and NBC's Andrea Mitchell.

ABC's "This Week" — As the Aug. 2 deadline moves closer, another week of budget negotiations comes to a close with no bipartisan deal on raising the debt ceiling. Can the White House and Congress finally reach an agreement that all sides can stomach? Sunday, on "This Week," Christiane Amanpour speaks with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner for the latest on the status of the ongoing talks.

Then, has bipartisanship gone out the window? Former Senate leaders Trent Lott, R-Miss., and Tom Daschle, D-S.D., come to This Week to reflect on tough lessons from working across party lines when they led the Senate, and what Congress and the White House can do to work together better

The billionaire mayor and CEO also weighs in on the debt ceiling debate and whether taxes should increase for the wealthy, and if he believes News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch should take greater responsibility in the ongoing media scandal.

Plus, the "This Week" roundtable debates the continued divide on the budget negotiations and all the week's politics, including whether Rep. Michele Bachmann's migraine headaches should be a campaign issue. Christiane is joined by ABC News' George Will, Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post, Fox Business Network senior correspondent Charlie Gasparino, and economist Alice Rivlin, former member of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

Finally, ABC News is on the ground from the site of the devastating drought and famine in the Horn of Africa. As the U.N. reports fears that thousands have already died from starvation, is the international community doing enough to aid Somali refugees fleeing to Kenya in hopes of survival? ABC News correspondent Lama Hasan brings her latest reporting to "This Week."

CBS' "Face the Nation" —White House Chief of Staff William Daley, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Senators Mark Warner, D-Va., and Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga

As if things couldn't appear to have gotten any worse, the events of late Friday night have left most everyone in Washington shaking their heads and more in doubt than ever that the government could avoid defaulting on its debts.
