Tell the GOP: Stop Imperiling U.S. Economy

Tell the GOP: Stop Imperiling U.S. Economy

The entire economy rests on the full faith and credit of the United States government.

If the Republicans get their way and allow the government to default on its debt, the resulting economic disaster would make 2008’s meltdown look like a pothole. Markets would plunge. Home values and retirement accounts would be wiped out. Soldiers wouldn’t be paid. And veterans’ benefits and Social Security checks would stop. And for what? So extremist Republicans can end Medicare, but keep subsidies for oil companies.

Sign the petition. We need 100,000 people to tell Paul Ryan and Company to stop playing political games with the American economy.

2. Tell the President: stop being so bipartisan in everything you do.

Little late to keep a straight face with the above message. He seems to like his political games.

Sorry if I can't get too enthusiastic about this one at this point in the game.

5. Ah, The False Equivalency Narrative, They Are Both At Fault...
...the media does it, and so does DU. The narrative is part of our national dialogue when the fact of the matter is that current day Republicans are dangerous in their willingness to bring the economy down.

temporary debt ceiling and some tax hikes. That narrative isn't ours, the leadership of both parties created it. Of course the GOP is dangerous, but it's Obama who is perfectly willing to trade away grandma and half the family silver to seal The Deal.

The hoped-for effect was to create an illusion of "crisis" so social spending would be slashed with little Democratic Congressional resistance in order to satisfy the demands of Wall Street bond traders. But, that has blown up in their faces, thank g-d.

I didn't create this situation, the national leadership of both parties and the bankers did.

7. And why? Perhaps to avert a default and global economic meltdown?
It is easy to dare a suicide bomber to push the detonator, but the fact of the matter is that current Republicans are economically illiterate. They are people who have no experience governing who got into politics weaned on talking points from Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. Do you seriously think that we would be having this discussion if we had a Democratic Congress?

With a Democratic Congress, the Nation was beginning to recover. With a Republican Congress, we are once again heading toward economic crisis. Coincidence?

Listen to some right wing talk or some Fox News & Friends, and you may see the fantasy world that these folks live in. Your comments assume that they really are actually concerned about the debt, and not trying to remake government in their Ayn Rand-world image. You hold Republicans in too high regard that they are actually just engaged in savy negotiation, and don't really believe their talking points. But, what if you are wrong?

Well, congratulations, this week we may find out the damage our Nation has done by putting these people in the House by an overwhelming margin. These are folks who actually believed the birther babble. The corporate media hides just how extreme they are.

Why do you think Roger Ailes is supporting Mitt Romney? Because like Bush, he can be sold as a "compassionate conservative" part II, who does not look scary.

While the corporate media tries to make liberals scary, it hides just how extreme Republicans are, and have become. Seriously, even under Bill Clinton, the Republicans did not seriously try to hold the debt limit hostage.

We are on the verge of fascism and economic meltdown and even at this late date we still cannot universally place the blame where it belongs, on the Republicans. Instead, you still see the corporate media portraying this as just a he-said, she said dispute when the fact of the matter is that what the Republicans are doing is outrageous.

It is easy to say walk away from talks. It would be easy to do so. But, that is not governing. I think that President Obama tried too hard, but as you recall, he did start this process by trying to demand a clean debt limit vote, and Republicans voted that down. Worse, the corporate media and even liberals thought this was savy negotiation. It was not. It was craziness. The fact that there is still a debate as to whether Democrats or Republicans are at fault is madness. We will not recover until we can hold Republicans accountable, and vote them out and win in 2012.
