And instead of the situation calmng down, fear is taking over
Both Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) both told POLITICO they will be carrying their guns in their home districts for protection. Both lawmakers hold a conceal and carry permit, but will not carry their weapons in the District of Columbia.

Shuler, who received a serious death threat in 2009, says he is planning to carry his weapon more often and boost security at his district events. He’s even encouraging his staffers to get their own conceal to carry permits.

3. So you'd be hapy if the entire country was armed?
This is bullshit. It's fear driven, and the fucking Pukes have won if this is the outcome.

5. That is your opinion and everyone has one
but you don't speak for all Democrats on this I assure you. No it's not better to only allow criminals to have the guns.

7. Wait, I've been waiting for this one, you think only criminals have guns?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

The gun that KILLED the Judge and five others and wounded the rest yesterday was obtained LEGALLY. What you just said is the meme of the Right, that everyone should be armed because only the criminals would have guns.

You have go to be kidding me.

20. You have a problem with gay culture?
Gay culture is about love, guns are about death, is that hard to understand?

21. You can't answer it because you know the answer is
"yes, make it illegal and only criminals will have guns" Simple easy and precise. Toe in it? My opinion of Americans to have a right to own guns does not make me a Right Winger period. If you want to alienate a whole lot of Democrats who believe in the way I do then go ahead. It will be you who has put your foot in in. I could feel the same way as you do. Maybe it's you who isn't a Democrat but your affiliation lies elsewhere with some other party. Now is it good to go there?

22. You folks tried that with Obama and the 'he's going to take our guns away'
and all you did was triple the profits of the gun and ammo makers who played you all for fools.

16. I'm trying REALLY hard to understand why some people here hate the idea of
a person using whatever legal and Constitutional measures they think are appropriate to protect themselves, and whoever else they care for, from bad guys who don't give a rusty fuck about legalities. Could you explain it to me?

32. Why explain it. the gun culture takes precedent everywhere, even here
those of us against the gun culture get silenced regularly, so there is no pint. You fell for the NRA meme about Obama taking your guns, and the gun industry became richer than they cold imagine and why, fear, simple fear.

Goodbye.

4. Sigh
Everywhere I look today, everyone is drawing the exact wrong lesson from this tragedy. More guns are not the answer. They are part of the problem. If this incident doesn't result in a second look at the culture of guns and violence in our country, I don't know what will.

More heated rhetoric is not the answer either. I squarely put the blame for this event on the shoulders of Sarah Palin and all her ilk. It sickens me. There is no other responsible party. But for chrissake, it doesn't mean we all have to start yelling like Banshees, either. Today, I make the resolution to try to behave and speak with calmness and respect, even as I express strong opinions about policy and politics. But I refuse to stoop to their level.

9. So far, taking the high-road and vigorous intellectual debate...
has not helped prevent the right-wing from gaining more mainstream support for their violent beliefs, nor has it stopped people from becoming victims of guns in the hands of criminals and maniacs.

30. This is true, but should we just give in and arm ourselves against them
then they have won, and THEY are the gun culture of death and intimidation, the ignorant majority that thought Obama was taking their guns, who think that it is necessary to carry a gun everywhere because they are going to be attacked.

We can not give in. When the Kennedys and Martin Luther King assassinated, we didn't give in, and we are not going to now.

26. If I were in office you betcha I'd be geting a permit
and kevlar... and NOT making it public. They are idiots for making it public knowledge.

The nature of my local district, let's just say we have enough nuts running around. Nuts not used in the negative mental health matter, just a fact.

And you can also bet I'd be making special arrangements with local LEOs for enhanced security and going with my staff down to the range and highly encouraging them to both get a Concealed Permit and an automatic. For the record I'd have to spend a lot of time at the range. I suck with a firearm.

But at this point it is crazy not to.

And no, I do not want all the country armed before you say it, but people in congress are right now at a higher risk of attack. Enough to warrant this. And no, this did not start yesterday. These are the trends we have been under for the last five to ten years... And until the ELIMINATIONIST language goes away... from acceptance, guess what? That is life.
