This Super Congress concept is terrifying
The first thing it makes me think about is this:

"On March 23, 1933, the Reichstag passed the Enabling Act, which gave dictatorial authority to Hitler's cabinet for four years. Armed with full powers, Hitler moved to eliminate all possible centers of opposition. His policy is known as Gleichschaltung, which translates literally as coordination. In this context, however, it meant more precisely subordination, that is, subordinating all independent institutions to the authority of Hitler and the Nazi Party."

2. Given that Presidents of late have delegated to themselves the unilateral power to declare war,
the concept of a Super Executive, i.e., King, is even more terrifying.

9. Agreed
With a right-wing stacked Supreme Court, there don't seem to be many operable checks and balances in the government today.

This lust to consolidate power and seize control from elected government officials is one of the most recent hallmarks of the right wing's activities in our country.

I saw this in play when the governor of Wisconsin started talking about seizing power over local governments a few months ago. His plan was modeled after one signed into law by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder that gave him unprecedented power to take over municipalities that he decided were in financial trouble. These powers including allowing him to fire elected public officials. In April, one of Snyder's appointees took control of Benton Harbor, Michigan, taking away all local control.

Just this past week, on July 20, 2011, the Rev. Jesse Jackson requested intervention by the U.S. Justice Department over the Michigan's financial takeover of Benton Harbor. Opponents of the takeover are working on a statewide referendum to repeal the law.

8. yes ! we are all concerned
and creating a 'super' legislative body that give the Kochs
and the tea idiots automatic 50% control is the worst idea yet.

Just raise the damn ceiling.

4. It's hot outside. You think too much. Dip you head in a cool pool of water.
The comparison being made in the OP, beyond being wrong, is unworthy of further analysis.

10. Actually I think it deserves a much closer look.
We are pretty far down the road as it is.....just looking around here on DU will be proof of how easily so many go along with allowing the "gov't" to claim so many powers.

My god people...WAKE UP!!
